Dear mums, my son is preparing for the Kingsdale sixth form interview in January.

Does anyone have any experience of the process? What types of questions should he expect?

For a start, if it's the Kingsdale in SE London, then it cannot be an 'interview', as in playing a part in the decision whether to make a provisional offer for a place in the sixth form. State schools are allowed to have discussion as to the suitability of the proposed course of study (e.g. A levels or BTEC, fit with proposed future study / employment etc), but not actually interview applicants.

(Para 1.9(m)).

Most schools appear to be well aware of this, but if the word 'interview' is actually used (rather than it just being your interpretation of what it says in tbe school's admissions policy or in any correspondence your DD has had with them), I would be very wary.

Thanks @MarchingFrogs
sorry they never used the term “interview”

DS has been invited to an in person guidance meeting.

Does this mean he has a good chance of receiving an offer?

Worth remembering that there are only enough 6th form places at KFS for a quarter of the current Y11 year group.

For the main A level track, they also want six x 7-9 grades including English and Maths.

I suspect they can be very picky when it comes to external applicants, and it will mainly come down to having stellar grades and/or having a mix of A levels that will have spaces.
