Anyone waiting to hear back from lady Eleanor for 11+ assessment results?

Yep - but we’re not going to find out anything until the middle of January, annoyingly.

Did LEH require the school report? My DD had the ISEB and Problem solving paper last week and I am not sure whether they requested the school report and a reference letter. Is it something that I missed or they will ask later at the interview stages?

mumtoAAA · 12/12/2024 09:53

mimisilly im not sure if a report has been requested from our school yet.
is LEH everyone's first choice? Do you know how many girls came for the problem solving? I wish they gave us a date for when letters are sent out like Hampton do !! I'm constantly checking my phone!

durness - Goodluck to your DD!!

LEH is our second choice. To be honest, without a music scholarship it’s probably a financial stretch too far; they’re the most expensive school we’ve applied to.

Our school was asked to provide a reference; they let us know because they charge for providing. Perhaps your school was asked but didn’t tell you as they don’t charge?

I think LEH get around 400 applicants for 100 places? Not sure how many places are set aside for their prep school applicants.

Thank you for the kind words - the best to yours as well!

Edited

There are 48 usually in the juniors and depending on the year, 40ish+ stay on…..

durness · 12/12/2024 14:57

So I guess we’re looking at 60-100 places for outside applicants, depending on total intake?

it’s going to be challenging…!

QuiteAJourney · 12/12/2024 15:51

No direct experience of LEH but somewhat similar girls schools in SWLondon have 600-700 applicants for some 60 or so places (around 40 coming up from the junior, give or take) and some 100 as total numbers in the senior year.
Worth always remembering that the number of offers is always significantly larger than the number of places - over 2:1 even for quite competitive / attractive schools.

mumtoAAA · 12/12/2024 19:24

Did Leh do assessments all day then? We went at 8.15am and there were around 200 girls (guestimate number)!!

Good question; I don’t know. I do know I was decidedly grumpy dragging our arses out of bed at the crack of dawn on a Sunday!

mumtoAAA · 12/12/2024 20:18

Exactly!!!
does make me wonder though! Anyone know of any afternoon sessions, which I don’t think k would have been very fair as the problem solving questions could have easily been shared!!

We're waiting to hear if we made it through to the second round too (applying from overseas). Good luck to everyone! At least we have Christmas to take our minds off the wait!

how many places are offered by a school like Emanuel would you say please? I think they need to fill 48 places on 10+ and 100 on 11+ so I am wondering how many place they would offer for each year group ? thanks

Very difficult to provide precise figures but I would estimate at least twice times the number of places if not more for 11plus - if you have a look at offers and acceptances of some of the preps in the area (e.g Finton, Roche, Hurlingham,...) you can see that lots of kids with offers do not take it ...although of course difficult to know whether ratios are the same for state school.

At 10plus, it is much more difficult to estimate. Emanuel is quite different to others insofar as the place is taken immediately and, if rejected, people cannot apply to the 11plus. So I would be very surprised if they over-offer by much - we do know people that rejected it, though: in one case in favour of the 10plus at KGS (which gave them the option of 'banking' a place but also taking the 11plus in other schools), in other as the family was using the 10plus at Emanuel to test the waters - their DC ended up going to LU with a significant bursary.

Offtheygo · 09/12/2025 12:44

thank you @QuiteAJourney that's what I am trying to figure out for DD...

are DD applying to 10+ at Emanuel also applying elsewhere if so where ? maybe KGS as you said, can't think of any other schools unless north of the river perhaps ?
the boys applying to E on 10+ are likely to also apply to Trinity/Whitgift or Hamptons or KGS I would have thought but what about the girls?

thank you for your hindsight

ihavebeenchangedforgood · 09/12/2025 13:54

I think ratios for state schools and Emanuel will be similar in that lots apply from local primaries. It was a while ago but about 10 applied from DCs primary, I think 8 got offers and 1 went. A handful had done the 10 plus and gone for y6 as well.
Offer rate for 10plus will indeed be much lower as most people will accept it although boys do have lots of other options and may prefer having a deferred place in the bag and then enjoying Y6 in their Prep/ primary.

Not aware of any all-girls doing 10+, although there are always occasional places (eg families moving abroad).

To the boys ones I would add City. To note, in City (like Emanuel), the DC that pass the 10+ join in Y6. I think Whitgift and Trinity too. That is different from KGS or Hampton, which are for deferred entry (and allow people to have a guaranteed place but also to continue applying to other schools for 11+).

mumtoAAA · 09/12/2025 15:52

LEH don’t offer the 10+
my daughter is at LEH - there are around 150 in her year and about 35 came up from the junior school. So there are around 110-115 spaces for girls sitting the 11+.
goodluck to your dd
i know its a very stressful time.

What year of your daughter in? I thought there were usually 110ish per year other than the bulge year? Although could be wrong!
