hi, parents, just received a letter from the school KEHS that our DD put under their waiting list to get into KEHS year 7 in Sept 2025, i am wondering the school will put all failure applicants to waiting list? or only a few border line girls under such waiting list? any replies are welcome, thank you all

My niece is there and loves it, in as far as any teenager loves going to school 🤣. She taken up new sports, e.g. cricket and fencing , and is learning Ancient Greek just like her mum, aunt and granny did there, has great friends and is generally happy. She's also a quiet kid, but no bullying seen that we're aware of and they do seem to play to each child's strengths.

I'd make sure she goes to the taster day in February, I think that can help clarify opinions. Neice 2 will be going, and hopefully she will then choose between there and EHS, she's currently undecided.

I know of one girl asked to leave, but other things going on, that was early on & another left for EHS again other things going on. There are the usual falling outs & some fruity behaviour in lower years, which I think is/would be common in all schools. My dd is a chill person & has not had problems with friendships beyond "Jane went to the drama studio without me today" rubbish when she first started, disruption in classes in non existent to hear her tell it.
Some very quiet studious girls 'frighteningly clever' according to my DD, a few she suspects may be on the spectrum, they seem to be quite protective of each other & in her friendship group at least, snide, leaving girls out & just bring an all round arse hole behaviour is very much checked by peers.
As for being pushy - that's not my experience. I left school at 15 with no qualifications & I REALLY think there's more to life than academics & have been keen to always let my DD know this. I think as I said previously, the teachers are experts as sussing a child's strengths early & feeding rather than pushing. No homework in holidays, teachers are open to helping if the girls approach or 6th formers.
If anything I would say any pressure that exists comes from some parents😬- but it's an academic school, so you pay your money & takes your choice.
I don't think EHS results are far behind are they? And the added benefit of being a straight through school, so I suppose the teachers know the girls inside out.
I suppose it's like any school, some have really good experiences & others not, but I wouldn't worry about a quiet girl, it's practically a magnet for quieter girls

It's a very strong community even post leaving. My mum, now in her seventies, has been to several official reunions for her year group, I'm in touch with loads of mine on fb and went the last reunion, we have another coming up in June. Last time about 50 from our year group of 78 went which isn't bad, given most don't live anywhere near Brum now. My parents basically ran a free hotel last time!

@pigtailroad the taster is for offer holders only. Offer holders usually decline after they have heard about their state school allocation (is it still March?). Then there is movement on waiting lists.
Best of luck!

I think it's the 11th, but it probably is for offer holders only. Some may decline before then though, so an invitation may happen, hard to tell.
