Hello everyone,

I am looking for Hall school Wimbledon as an option for my daughter for secondary. There are mixed opinions about the school and it's very hard to make a decision. The school is not on the league table, hence worried about the GCSE's and A Level results. Any suggestions about the school and how are the sports facilities too? Thank you!

Regards

The Hall really isn’t about exam results, it’s a very small school that is all about pastoral care and individual attention. It has a local reputation of being excellent with children who might struggle in a bigger environment. But all of this is second hand from parents I know who were pleased with their choice.

Thank you, CaptainOhMyCaptain.
Any idea about the sports facilities in the school?

@SpeedyPixie , the sports facilities info is on the website (Oberon fields) but have you visited the school / Wimbledon village? The Hall Wimbledon is a unique school, has someone suggested it to you for your dd for a particular reason?

Thank you, tennissquare.
I am looking for a school that is kind and caring and has children that are welcoming. This is most important for me.

Bear in mind that with small age groups they are unlikely to be able to put out many sports teams, if competitive sport/fixtures are important to you.

Hi any feedback about HSW would be really appreciated. My son is generally a bright boy , on the calm, gentle side and is struggling with the overly strict and pushy environment of a top big boy school. We are desperately looking for a more gentle nurturing alternatives. HSW looks great but have heard mixed opinions (from people who do not have DC there though). Would academically able kids do well there? We are not too focused on exam results, just want him to enjoy school and academically stretched enough to reach his potential. Thanks so much!

have you considered Haliford school in Shepperton? Not sure where you are based…amazing pastorally and have been great with my son who could not cope at a bigger school but who has thrived at Halliford

MayleneR · 02/02/2025 14:05

Thanks @incognito119 !! We are not far from Wimbledon. Halliford would be possible for us if they have school bus route via Wimbledon. I will check it out thank you so much! Any other school recommendation or insight into Hall School Wimbledon would be much appreciated!!

I know several people with DC who have gone there and they have been very happy. It’s not super academic but very nurturing and the kids seem nice. Have never heard anything bad said about it in my circles.

Look at Kingswood house school in Epsom for a similar type school (small and nurturing ). Bus routes from Wimbledon.

Thanks a lot @Wimbledonmum1985 and @alpacastacker !

Hi, my son is at Hall School Wimbledon and he started there last year in Y7.
Good points for us about the school -

  1. Excellent environment - kids who are shy can thrive there! They are small and caring
  2. My son had a very hard time with kids in his previous school and he sort of blossomed in this school - kids are kind and there is a lot of focus on respect and mutual understanding
  3. My son did not need extra assistance with academics, but we have friends whose kids struggled and the school provided extra lessons in maths at no additional charge, so they work with the kids to make sure they are supported
  4. Excellent music teacher and I think kids who you never thought were interested in music - sing, play instruments and do enjoy music like i have never seen before!! (Huge shout out to Mr Spoerer)

Things that we think they could easily fix -

  1. More sports fixtures for kids — they don’t play enough with other schools
  2. Better communication - they are good but sometimes you feel like you needed more info, however i know they are aware and working on it

All in all a fabulous school!! We couldn’t recommend it enough and wish they were more schools like HSW :)
