Changing school place

I feel I made a mistake when applying for secondary schools for my 10 year old, is there anyway to change it now or do I have to wait and then go on the waiting list? I’m guessing I can’t appeal so is there anyway to change it now before places are given. Thanks

Unless you have moved (and your LA has a 'grace period' for change of address), then making any alterations now will.render the whole application late.

meditrina · 19/11/2024 10:32

Wait

If you change your preferences now, then you will be counted as a late applicant (unless your LA has a v late deadline for amendments) and that means your preferences will only be looked at once all on-time applications have been processed.

So wait to see which school is allocated, and only then decide if you still want a change

We will want to change no matter what, oh no I knew it was too late…

For what reason have you have changed your mind?

LIZS · 20/11/2024 18:35

Wait and see what you are allocated , then go on wl if needs be. Did you name your new preference?

So is there a good chance he will be allocated it anyway?

not if it's 3rd i don't think so..

Do 1 and 2 normally admit from your distance, assuming no higher priority applies?

redskydarknight · 21/11/2024 07:46

And how popular is school 3? If it's undersubscribed, then being a late application won't matter.

ChocolateSpider · 21/11/2024 10:18

I think the other schools are more popular but we are literally a 3 minute walk from school 3 so I’m wondering/hoping if we are more likely to get it for that reason. School number 1 I think is the least likely we will get as it’s the best in the area however school number 2 is a possibility and the do take students from this area but it will be two buses to get there

If the tie breaker for school 3 is distance and you are well within the distance for the last place offered last year, your son will almost certainly qualify for a place at that school. That means you will be offered that school unless he also qualifies for a place at one of the other schools. Based on what you have posted, there is a decent chance you will be offered a place at school 3. If you aren't, you can ask to go on the waiting list for school 3 as soon as offers come out. You are likely to be at or near the head of the waiting list, so there is a very good chance you could get a place that way.

Teaandflapjack · 21/11/2024 23:18

yes highly likely you would ne offerred school 3 om offer day - if you accept you accept. if you don't you would stay on the WLs for schools 1 and 2 and probably be oferred school 2 in the second round which is a couple / 3 weeks later (depending on which LA). good lucky. its all v stressful. worked out for us. few more grey hairs!

ChocolateSpider · 22/11/2024 11:30

thanks both fingers crossed he gets 3rd place!
