Sutton High School

Hi. My DD has done the Sutton High School exam for a place in year 7 in September 2025. We are waiting to hear if she has passed and if she will be asked to attend an interview.

Please can anyone let me know how you found the admissions process and how long it takes between the exam and interview? Also what type of girls they are looking for? I didn’t think Sutton High was overly selective and felt it was a mixed ability school which really appealed to me. However there were quite a few girls at the exam who have already passed the grammar schools exams.

Thank you

Lot of locals in sutton use this as a fallback option in case grammar doesn’t come through though I feel school is on upwards trajectory. Also it’s interesting because they give final offers as early as December .

Thanks Secondary. Offers are due before Xmas but tests are still being held and interviews haven’t been scheduled. So I am quite surprised by the offer timeline!

Hi! My DD is in Sutton Y7 and loving it, despite being the only girl from her primary school to go there. It’s a really welcoming and diverse school, mixed ability yes, but I would say the girls are in an above average cohort academically. Many of them are neurodiverse, and it’s incredibly inclusive for ND girls. It’s not as academic as say, Wimbledon or Putney high school but last year they said they made offers to 1/3 of the girls who sat the 11+. I had a look through last year’s emails and we had her offer on Dec 8th, which was great news going into the Christmas break, knowing she’d already got a place at her favourite school.

feel free to DM me, OP if you have any more questions about Sutton. It’s been a great choice so far (knock on wood!)

I have DD as Sutton High and agree with everything Lizardlegs has said. Would also add that the standard of teaching is just as good as at PHS or WHS, it’s just that the peer group is generally less ‘super’ academic (a good thing in my book). It’s a great choice of a school, achieves v good academic results, develops the girls brilliantly and they give initial offers by the 8th Dec. Good luck

Thank you @Vista123 that’s really good to know.

can I ask something about the 6th form please? I was told that about 50% of the girls leave after GCSE. The number of girls who did A\Ls was below 40 this year. Do you know why this is? Sixth form is many years away so not an immediate concern and obviously depends on DD getting an offer but thought I’d check. Thank you

My experience has been that a lot of girls want to go to co-ed sixth forms from other local GDST schools but don't know Sutton as well.

Pearsal · 30/11/2024 22:40

Thanks @mumwithallthebooks I can see girls wanting a different cohort in sixth form

Anyone had an interview with Sutton yet? Feel like they’re leaving it late considering the outcome is due on 22nd December.

Capriscorp1 · 04/12/2024 12:53

Hi,

just wondering if you did receive an invitation to interview as we are still awaiting ours and getting a little concerned that we have not heard anything. No response to emails or phone calls either!
Thanks

Hi. They are not doing interviews this year. The girls were informed of this at the exam. They should’ve emailed the parents but no comms about this at all. Offers will be based on just the exam results.

Oh! Thank you. How strange.

Well, I guess that’s another application complete then. Just waiting on the results…

Capriscorp1 · 04/12/2024 14:50

Thank you, that is strange! Well I suppose it’s just a waiting game now.

late to this but to add context re lack of interviews, last year the head, Mrs Dawson took these. She’s been having health issues this year (chemo) and they may have decided to skip interviews this time.

Thank you, I meant to post an update but it slipped my mind. Results are due by 22nd.

Pearsal · 08/12/2024 16:12

Thank you @Lizardlegs there was an email from the head teacher this week saying that she has been unwell and is unable to do interviews this year. However there is an opportunity for 1:1 online meetings with the head for offer holders.

We are planning to move to Uk in Aug 2025 from Zurich . My girls will be in year 7 and year 3 in UK next Academic year.

we have not given any assement for Year 7 . Now we are in talks with Sutton high school and Walthamstow hall .

we have got acceptance in Sutton high school and they want us to commit this week . While we have assessment with Walthamstow hall at end of April when we will be visiting them .

I don’t want to commit without seeing the school and feeling the vibe. Please help with suggestions and review of both schools as I’m purely relying on their top school guide listing

thank you in advance
Nandini

Yeah it’s better to look at schools and if someone is rushing than that means they are trying to hide something. There are other private schools also nearby sutton like Ewell castle, surbiton high etc. so take a look and than decide. To be honest private school demands have gone down (except few) and you will have time on your hands to decide
