Hi,
I know the Seren programme starts from year 8 but I'm not sure how open the schools are about it. Does anyone tell you if your child is on it? Does anyone have any experience of it at all?

My eldest is in the programme. The school let us know and sends home letters about different parts of the programme. He is in year 13 now, so has been lots of uni stuff going on eg last year a trip to oxford uni, online lectures etc

My youngest's in it. The school did let us know when he was first put on it which I suppose must've been Y8. It's always been pretty low-key, joining the odd online session and submitting pieces of work every now and then. It's only really in Y12 that trips out, presentations etc become a thing that you need to know about.

Ah, okay. I was wondering whether to ask about it. He's always off the graphs on the annual tests and is in top sets etc. It's just he's getting bored so thought it might help and have no idea what the school actually does with it.

I'm not sure it does anything to alleviate boredom, to be honest. It really doesn't take up a lot of time until 6th form. But it's been a positive experience for my son I'd say, and he's lucky that the friends he's had since primary school are in it too. It's broadened his horizons and made him feel less self-conscious for caring about his education.
