Stevenage secondary school

Hello everyone,

We have just bought our new house in Stevenage and I need some info about the secondary schools there. My son is year 7 and I need to transfer him soon. I have made some research but I would like some personal experience and advice.

Have you looked on the Herts admissions website to see which schools actually have spaces?

Your child is already in year 7. Studying process began in September. That meant your DC will get a place at the nearest school where there is a space.

Then you can check about any available vacancy on council website https://www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/services/schools-and-education/school-admissions/in-year-admissions-change-schools-during-the-year/school-vacancies/school-vacancies-year-7-to-year-11.aspx
After that, put a short list of the wanted school, contact with them directly about availability of space and to know about waiting list number.
You will have the idea about order of preferences and chances to get the place.
If council will offer you the vacancy in more than 3 miles from home because there is no space closer at all, apply for transport support.
Of course you can continue to stay on the waiting list if needed.
