Sutton Grammar or Wallington County Grammar school

My son has passed the entrance exams for Wilson’s, Sutton Grammar School, and Wallington County Grammar School. Now, we’re faced with choosing between SGS and WCGS for our CAF submission. Unfortunately, we couldn’t attend the open evenings for either of these schools, so I’m reaching out to parents with experience for insights on the advantages and disadvantages of each school.

A bit about my son: he loves football, enjoys math, and is a friendly, social kid.

Additionally, based on previous years, does anyone have information on the typical difference in minimum offered rank (or difficulty) between these two schools? We’re now outside the catchment area.

Any guidance would be really appreciated.

I believe SG is slightly harder to get in to. Or always used to be a football school, playing quite a lot of football. Downside is their playing fields are a coach ride away at Northey Avenue.

WCGS is next to the park, but I believe they are slightly less football focused. I can't remember what they play more of.

This isn't a super helpful response but might get you started. I'd look at transport too. They are both good schools, so that might play a factor. SG is very near Sutton High Street and pretty near the train station. WCGS is a bit more open, but on a main road for buses.

I think Wally Boys is rugby in winter, Sutton Grammar is football

My son is at Sutton Grammar and is really happy there. They play football during the winter and spring months and cricket in summer. It's a lovely school. Teaching seems very good and pastoral care is also good.

Thanks for sharing.
Forgot to mention, my son plays piano and violin. Any insights on music opportunities at the two schools?
