Hello all,
Please I need advice as we just moved to Kent area. My little one missed the kent selection test by 2marks however passed the medway test, my only concern is distance. Please, does anyone know if I can put a kent grammar school as 1st choice? I also do not want to miss out on the medway opportunity if I don't use them as a 1st choice?
Anyone been in my situation or know anyone thathas? How can i go about it?
Thank you for your help

You won’t get into a Kent school unless you parent appeal.
If I were you (and I’ve gone through this in Kent 3 times) I would put a Medway grammar first if you prefer this to non grammar in Kent.
Then put your best Kent non grammar (or second best Medway grammar)
Then your second best Kent non grammar (or third best Medway grammar)
and lastly a Kent grammar.

The Kent grammar must be on the list of 4 in order to do a parent appeal- doesn’t matter where though.

If you put the Kent grammar first and then Medway grammar second that is fine. You won't miss out on a place because you didn't put it first. Schools don't know if you have listed them 1st/2nd/3rd/4th and can't take that into account when offering places. Put your genuine preference but make sure at least one is a school you should almost definitely get a place at.

You do need to appeal to have a shot at a place in Kent.

If the total score is 330, but will the email state he/ she has been assessed "suitable for admission to a Kent grammar school"? Please read again as headteacher may appealed for this case.

You need to list the grammar school on your list. Then go on the schools waiting list, and appeal to the school.

Look at the following website for good general advice, plus advice on appeals.

I will put medway as 1st and kent grammar schools. Do you know if I can appeal on the basis of a near miss score? And do one appeal to the council or school?

You need to decide which school you really want first (if you do get through the Kent test appeal). If you put the Medway grammar first you will be offered it even if your Kent appeal is successful. As earlier posters have said (1) the schools do not know the order you put them in and (2) to get a Kent grammar school place you will need to do a parent appeal (I don’t think you get the results of the appeal until May/June which is after the initial school allocation). Good luck with it all and I would definitely recommend the eleven plus forum Kent section. There are lots of people who will have good advice for you there. I only did the Kent test with my children not Medway.

You appeal to the school. You need to put a case forward and prove that they are grammar school standard.

You also need to consider if the Kent School is usually oversubscribed. If the school has already allocated all places your appeal would not only have to prove your child is at a grammar school standard, your appeal would also need to address why the school should go over PAN.
