Wandsworth y6 test, different borough

Hello,

This may be a stupid question (however, I can't seem to find a clear answer online); can my child take the Wandsworth y6 test if we live in Merton Borough? This is with a view to applying to Graveney (I already know it's highly competitive).

Does anyone know if the highest scorers are then further prioritised by whether they live in Wandsworth? Or is it the case that, technically (obviously this wouldn't happen) anyone in the country could take the test and whoever scores the highest gets in on the selective places?

Thanks!

I believe for the 70 "grammar" places it is based on score and nothing to do with distance from school. This might come into effect if there us a tie on scores but I'm not 100% sure.

My son did the Wandsworth test and we live in Lambeth so the Borough doesn't make a difference.

If you are looking for next year Y7 you might have already missed the boat as I know the tests are done early in September

The 70 selective places are allocated by score in the test, without reference to other factors except when they reach the score where they need to tie-break, when they use distance.

ADMISSION CRITERIA (graveney.org)

I would contact them as I remember from looking at their website there was a second round of tests lasts year for those who missed the first exam.

Tests for this admissions round (ie Yr7 joiners Sept 2025) were held 26th, 27th, 30th September (you needed to have registered to take it by 4 September).

There's no mention on the website about late sits, but there should be a fallback for those who were registered for the test but prevented by exceptional circumstances from sitting (you'd probably need to contact the LA, as they run it, because the test is of course used by other schools as well as Graveney)

The hype is exam stats. Day-to-day reality at Graveney is much harsher than the glossy image.

Hello guys, sorry I'm not a mum or even a parent, but I can say that I did the Wandsworth Test in 2021 (the cohort of year 6s who did not do SATS due to Covid), and I lived in Croydon. My parents decided to do the test just in case Whitgift and Trinity didn't work out (didn't get bursary for either), and as long as you practise VR and NVR a lot before the test, you should be fine. I got a score of over 270+ and got into Graveney, where I am now as a Purple Flash in Yr11. As long as you get a high score, distance will not matter.
