Hi everyone,

We recently relocated from Dubai to the UK, and my son got accepted at Esher High. However, it's quite far from our home in Sunbury on Thames. He has now been offered a seat at Matthew Arnold in Staines. Could you please provide some advice on whether I should move him to Matthew Arnold or keep him at Esher?

@Marshniel , what year is he in at school? Ie how many years for the commute.

MA doesn't have a great reputation at the moment.

Are you not able to get him into a school in Sunbury.

I would not expect there to be a big difference in travel Staines vs Esher.

Esher High is a better performing school, you can look at each school's website for gcse data.
Is your ds able to keep up with the works at EH?
Are you on the waiting list for Thamesmead, St Paul's College or Bishopwand and if so are you near the top of the list?

Thank you for your responses.

I've applied to St. Paul’s and Bishop Wand, but both schools are oversubscribed. St. Paul’s has a waitlist of 15, and Bishop Wand hasn't provided a specific number for their waitlist.

I understand that traveling to Staines and Esher might not make much of a difference. However, my office is located in Central London, and managing drop-offs and pick-ups is quite a commitment.

Do you know any parents in Esher who might be willing to help with transportation? I would, of course, be happy to cover any associated costs.

I apologize for asking so many questions; I'm new to the country and trying to navigate everything. Thank you for your understanding!

@Marshniel , I live nearby, the traffic will only get slower but I would keep him at esher high and ask the school office if there is anyone who comes from the same direction. Going to school you could drop him at 1 of the stops on the school bus route in Hersham or Molesey. Going home he can walk to Esher station and get a train to Wimbledon and then change and get a train to Sunbury if you live near Sunbury cross.

Thank you very much. Will continue with Esher and try to figure out the transportation.
regards,
Marshniel
