How do aptitude tests work?

Hi, just wondered if anyone could shed some light on aptitude tests…

My understanding is that if a child is successful, this means they gain a place at the school, but you still have to list it as a preference.

Do you have to list it as first place? Or can it be 3rd/4th etc? Can your child still get into a school you rank higher, or are they tied down to attending the school they got the aptitude place for?

Thanks in advance, this is all new to me!

You should list schools in your order of preference.

Note the aptitude test pass in relation to the relevant school. If it your preferred school, list it first. If others are higher on your list, list them first.

The aptitude test will I presume raise you up the priority list for that school, but if you qualify (on distance for example) for another school that you have listed higher in your preferences, then you will be offered that school.

My ds got a place on aptitude for stembut it was a few years back.
You do not have to put it first, but will be given the higher ranked school that accepts your ds.

A friends ds was told he would have got in to a school on his aptitude score but they only put it second and he got into the school he put first so was offered that place.
