Hello,

can anyone give any advice on sacred heart or other catholic schools in London vs private . Looking at private -both church and non church and only state schools - prep a church school.

it’s frankly a minefield and not being from London , I’m sure I’m missing some gems somewhere. How is Notting hill and Ealing high school ??

I went to Sacred Heart Hammersmith (am now 36) but I must say it’s superb, was then and I believe is even better now - we always outscored our private neighbours!

Interesting, which private neighbours are you referring to? As the only ones I know in Hammersmith are ranked pretty high for academics, with one constantly being number one in the league tables.

It definitely doesn't outperform its private neighbours in terms of grades and it will not be a similar experience or education. However it seems to be a really good school and I know people who have been happy with Sacred Heart.

NHEHS is, I think, a fairly mid-range private school - decent but not at the top of the rankings. Is that what you want?

If you can say a bit more about what you are looking for, people may be able to help or point you at schools that might suit. What's important to you? Pastoral care, range of subjects, university destinations, numbers of GCSEs taken, grades, sport, creative opportunities etc. Do you have a preference for state or private? What is your child's current attainment like? Is she the sort of child who needs a bit of additional push or is she really keen on academic work? Are you looking for a bursary or are you confident in your ability to pay the fees? Is your child the kind who would prefer to be near the top of her class or is she someone who would enjoy being surrounded by lots of other clever children?

There are lots of variables to consider!
