Harris Invictus Croydon

My daughter got an in-year admission (year 9) at Harris Invictus Academy in Croydon. Once I knew she was offered a place here, I took her off the waiting list of other schools. I did a lot of research and they are i) rated outstanding by OFSTED; ii) boast of great results; iii) I met the admissions person who showed us around the school and the campus had good facilities; iv) also they have a reputation of being very strict. However, today was her first day and she said she didn’t learn anything. The classes had rowdy students saying the F word to teachers and at times it took 20 minutes to get the class to quiet down. My daughter and I are worried now and I’m wondering if I made a poor decision enrolling her in the school. Should we give it more time? What are my options? It would be great to hear other parents or their child’s experience of the school. Thank you sooo much!!

Give it more time in case today was an especially bad day and not representative of what her average day will be like. Perhaps, for example, the class you describe was taught by a new or inexperienced teacher still finding their feet. However I know lots of 'outstanding' schools that on a day to day still have significant issues and are perhaps better than other schools at PR and a good sell!

Most education staff wouldn't willingly touch Harris with somebody else's bargepole.

Hi both my boys study there, one is year 7 and one year 11. To be honest in a few weeks they’ll be changing the classes around and from year 10 they are put in sets. As it’s start of term teachers are getting to know the students. Kids who mess around are moved classes. Just today I went to an open evening as my youngest is missing his friends and we were going to go ahead with in year transfer but after coming home he’s decided he prefers invictus. Wishing your daughter all the best!
