Year 7 timetable - how many subjects/lessons per week?

Now that I have DC1 in Year 7 I'm so enjoying seeing her timetable.

Really taking me back.

Her school day is similar to how mine was in that it's:

Form time
P1
P2
Break
P3
P4
Lunch
P5
P6

(Both selective schools)

What I can't figure out though - she does an additional language to me. (2 modern languages and Latin - I was just French and Latin)

So I'm wondering maybe what she's losing that I had.

Also - other schools we looked at only did 1 language and no Latin. So I'm wondering in those cases where they're spending extra lesson times.

What are your Y7 timetables like.

In the next post I'll list how her 30 hours break down over a week. Would love to compare. ☺️

Ours have 5 lessons a day, 5 days a week and have a 2 week timetable

Frizno · 16/09/2024 21:33

So hour wise (it's a 2 week timetable so there's a little variation so that's why some are 1.5 etc as she might have 2 Geography one week but one the next)

3 English
3 Maths
3 Science
3 P.E.
2 Latin
2 Spanish
2 French
2 RE (Faith school)
1.5 History
1.5 Geography
1.5 Music
1.5 Health/PSHE
1 DT
1 IT
1 Art
1 Drama

French
Latin
Geography
Science

Ours have 5 lessons a day, 5 days a week and have a 2 week timetable

So that's 5 fewer lessons per week.

Is it just 1 language maybe?

7 lessons every day... if you include form time "personal development"... many of the lessons are doubles though so my daughter will not have 7 different subjects.

She does 2 languages and has 2 single lessons of each per week.

Her lunch break is only 40 mins too.

mugboat · 16/09/2024 23:26

4 maths (in 2 doubles)
4 English (in 2 doubles)
4 science (in 2 doubles)
2 PE (1 double)
2 Home Ec. (1 double)
2 RE ( singles)
2 History (singles)
2 French (singles)
2 Spanish (singles)
2 geography (singles)
1 art (single)
1 music (single)
1 drama (single)
1 Computing (single)
7 personal development - form time

So including form time, they do 7 lessons a day, always at least 1 double a day. They have 40 mins lunch too.

DD has 5 lessons a day but the spread seems a bit different to above, each fortnight they have:

7 maths
7 science
7 english
8 spanish
2 PE
3 history
3 geography
3 RE
2 computing
2 drama
2 art
2 music
2 singing
plus tutor time bookending the day.

Seems to be a lot more time on the core subjects plus they have Spanish almost every day! And singing instead of PHSE I guess. This is a comprehensive schools but EVERYTHING is ability set (even art and drama!)

HalfasleepChrisintheMorning · 17/09/2024 06:50

DS day is 7 lessons of 45 minutes- 4 in the morning and 3 in the afternoon.
Maths, English, 3 Science, History, Geography, Art, Music, DT, Games, PD, Computer Science, Drama, RS, Latin and 2 languages. In year 7 French and German. In year 8 he’s chosen German and Spanish.
Year 7 do a Double “activities” lesson every fortnight that they choose- anything from astronomy to orienteering.
They don’t do Home Ec.

Owlbookend · 17/09/2024 09:34

It is interesting to see the different variations. In Y8 now, but breakdown was the same in Y7. 5 1 hour lessons a day with a two week timetable.

8 Maths
6 Science
7 English
5 MFL - one studied
4 PE
3 History
3 Geography
2 RE
2 Computing
1 Drama
2 Art
2 Music
2 Design technology
1 Food studies (home ec in my day)
2 PSHE/ personal development
