Hello all,

we are considering SHHS as DD is currently at one of their feeder primary schools. Does anyone have any recent experience on the school and how it has been for your DD.

thanks!

Hi there, I have my eldest there and will put my second one next year as well. It's a very big school with 198 girls per year group. Doesn't make a difference for us but something to bear in mind as I can be quite a shock from primary. The teaching is superb and we are happy with the school in general. It has its flaws like all other state schools but as a whole I've seen a huge progress in my eldest and a good preparation for her GCSEs. She's also made good new friends and integrated easily. Hope this helps and maybe we will be together next year. Best of luck!

Thank you coming back to me! Yes big school - the tour went on and on!
seems quite strict but the girls seem nice. Do you use the after school clubs etc?

can you elaborate on your own experience on its cons? I’m trying to understand the admissions also. It was capped at feeder schools this year but is it then ballot of the feeder school whatever the location?

Also do you know anything regarding the new building I see on the website ?

thanks!

The after school clubs are great and very varied. The sports one are done by pre-selection as the girls go into competitions and some are paid for. All others are free and girls just turn up.
It is a disciplined school and kids need to follow the rules, but students do immensely well there.
Yes you're right: it has a lot of primary catholic feeder schools and therefore it's very hard to get in if you're not in any of them. It's 198 places, mostly taken from those 47 feeder schools. Then once you're in that pot it's totally random. So you might live across the school and not get in while a girl from Brentford did. It doesn't seem very fair as all other schools are by distance so it does leave the local girls without a safe alternative to secondary. But it is what it is...
The new building was sadly put on hold because of covid. The project is very behind and they haven't even started to fundraise for it so that shouldn't be a pro or con as it's going to take ages to be sorted.
My experience on the cons is that, because it is a gigantic school (like many others in London), the bullying or mental health issues take slightly longer to be picked up and dealt with. There is just too much going on at all times.
Overall I am very happy with the school and feel that both my girls will leave SH well prepared for the world!

We are in the waiting list. I hope we will get a place there 💕
