Yes - don’t touch with a barge pole!
I signed up for tuition for my son. Got matched with a fantastic secondary school English teacher. Very happy with her. Had 2 lessons then the communication stopped and she didn’t turn up for the next 2 lessons. Tried contacting customer services - they couldn’t contact her either. Was eventually told she had left and they wanted to match us with a new tutor. Only options were first year uni students none of whom I felt were suitably qualified to justify the cost. They did eventually let me out of the contract but it took hours of wasted time arguing with them.

My friend who initially recommended them to me also ended up later having a bad experience after wanting to pause the membership and finding they were locked into a long contract. They also managed to get away eventually but it was a long and stressful process.

I would suggest looking at the online reviews and proceeding with caution!!!

See other MN thread about GS! Hundreds of posts. None good.

Thanks so much for the info. She had a free lesson this evening and liked the tutor but now I'm having doubts about using them. Think I'll avoid and look elsewhere.

You may be interested to know that GoStudent Tutors don't get paid for doing the trial period UNTIL the student signs up!! So they basically work for nothing. After the trial session you will get a call from the sales team (I think they call themselves "Educational Advisors") they will do their level best to sign you up and lock you into a contract (for up to 3 years) which is difficult to get out of. Please, walk away now before it's too late!!
You may also be interested to know that the tutor's starting pay is just £12.00 for the 50-minute session and the highest earners (to get a pay rise of £1.00 you have to teach150 lessons in 6 months) are capped at a maximum of £16.00.

Don't.
Lots of other options.

Doltontweedle · 12/09/2024 23:17

Seriously, don’t!!

connie26 · 13/09/2024 08:30

Thanks all. Will definitely avoid. It's a shame for the tutor as dd really liked him at the trial lesson but unfortunately she didn't get his full name, so we can't try and contact him :-(

Please can you let me know how you got out of this contract as I am having such terrible trouble with this company. How are they allowed to be linked to the school!
Many thanks
Sharon

RealMintGoose · 20/06/2025 06:40

Having issues with this company! Son just finished GCSES and they wouldn't let me cancel the contract even though he no longer needs lessons! They then took a payment out of my account ( a different account I signed up with but had used to pay a lesson once ) they are awful ! Today I need to deal with the bank and get them blocked and report them to the financial ombudsman...

TheIcyRubyQuoter · 03/10/2025 14:49

I had a bad experience , I can tell you they are not reliable lessons are reschedule without your consent and wanting you to keep adapting without delivering your service. Cancellation fees incured and lesson automatically renewed without refund

Falsfully booking classes you don't wish to further

TheIcyRubyQuoter · 03/10/2025 15:02

Please how do you manage with the cancellation ? bank refunded me but I am sure It be will reclaim .
Please advice me so that subsequent payment willnot be deducted

toomanydicksonthedancefloor1 · 03/10/2025 16:00

As above - check out their cancellation policy and proceed with caution.

TheIcyRubyQuoter · 03/10/2025 19:10

Have reported to the bank. My fair is hope my money will not be deducted again.... I am tired of ringing back and forth

Don't.
Lots of other options.

Are there any good companies offering tutoring?
Any recommendations please?
