Yr11 leavers hoodies

We paid £45 last week for our son's leavers hoody, which is due to arrive next week. Today we got a letter saying that the hoody can only be worn in school if the drawstring is completely pulled out. Health & safety!! Does this seem fair?

I'm surprised you can wear the hoodie in school at all - surely it's not uniform?

also why are you getting leavers' hoodies in September

It's uniform for year 11 yeah, although their sweatshirts can still be worn over their shirts and ties.

Seems reasonable to me. It's to stop the cord being used as a ligature.

True but this doesn't seem likely in reality. A hoody with no drawstring looks odd imo.

Whenever I receive a uniform order at work as I check the sizes/quantities I remove the cords from the hoodies. Our guys work with power tools and we had issue with a cord tangled round a tool a few years ago.

Lots of schools now only use clip on ties for the same reason (and yes, the pulling on ties was a real thing).

Surely this is up to your child. It's pretty unusual to be able to wear a leavers' hoodie in school, let alone for a whole year, so if they don't want to take the drawstring out, they can just wear it out of school.
