Hi all

It doesn’t look as though one of these threads has been set up yet so I thought I’d do it.

I have a daughter going into year 6 and a son going into year 8 next month - both will be moving to senior school in 2025.

From the mail that they have sent for Drama scholarship invite, I have understand that they did not call of applicants. Do they also shortlist the scholarship candidates ?

we don't have a scholarship invite, but from what I understand they are highly selective as you cannot even apply for them, yes drama invites are selective too but probably less so than scholarship. Massive congrats to your DC!

We’ve got the alleyn’s email - good luck to everyone for next Saturday!

Good luck to everyone for Emanuel interviews today. DD still sounds asleep so at least well rested ahead of it!

Thanks, as always Emanuel was warm and welcoming. I hope everyone else enjoyed it too. Makes such a big difference to put the dc at ease.

Yes. Emanuel is always welcoming, teachers with smiley faces and the Churro was nice 😍

Worriedisither · 18/01/2025 14:13

Did everybody get the same group exercise or was it different depending what group you’re in?

I think everyone had the same, but we should not mention what it was, since interviews are still happening until end of day the 20th.

TidyLion · 18/01/2025 15:32

Couldn’t agree more that Emanuel was warm and welcoming this morning. Really lovely. DD is full of beans! I thought the churros was a great touch. Your move Alleyn’s 😜

Hope Emanuel went well for everyone. Agreed a very welcoming school, my DC enjoyed it. The interviewer asked her if she would accept the offer if she was offered. Is this a standard question? No other school has asked that and it kind of puts kids on the spot.

I don’t know about Emanuel but other schools (South and central London) have asked this directly and/or asked where the school was on their list of preferences in interviews will my DD. Thankfully her last place school didn’t ask her as she’s not good at being diplomatic. Personally I believe there probably is a better way of questioning the kids though to get the same result - ie how likely is this offer going to be accepted.

Not sure if this is new practice for schools? Maybe someone who has been through it before can opine.

Yes, my son got asked this this afternoon, in quite a direct way. Unfortunately my son replied “only if I don’t get an offer from <another SW London co-ed school where his brother is>”. Which at least will sound like we hadn’t prepped him for the question.

Was a bit surprised tbh

I think perhaps it depends on the person doing the interview. My dc were not asked this question, but I have seen on mumsnet this can come up. And we prepared ds for what to say if asked what is your first choice school. He was asked at one school what other schools has he applied for.

DS was asked this today, also asked if it was first choice. He had this question in another school, it has been the most common interview question for him...

CruCru · 18/01/2025 21:01

It’s quite an annoying question. It’s hard / dangerous to decide which is your favourite school until they make you an offer. A friend’s daughter (now at senior school) got three good offers but a no from her favourite and she was devastated - despite having done really well.

Thanks everyone. It's hard to answer if it isn't their top choice - do they lie and say it is, or be honest and risk not getting an offer?

I’m hoping that that sort of question is so that they can gauge how many offers to give, rather than not to offer at all,
