Single sex schools

Interested to hear people’s experience of single sex schools. Looking at high schools for my son and there’s one local (state) school with a very good reputation which seems lovely (obviously will look in more depth at the open evening next month) and seems a good fit for him. It’s a boys school with girls in sixth form.

I’ve no experience of single sex schools. If you went to one or have children, particularly boys, in one, what are your thoughts? Am I overthinking and it makes no difference?

Depends on the child

Pros and cons. Have girls and would
say on balance they have had a better experience than I did in my mixed school.
if I had a boy would prefer mixed.

My DS may have done better in local generally good boys school. He wanted to go to more local mixed school. I often think he'd have been better in boys school. He may have been involved more in traditionally female things eg music / drama etc
