School Fines

My partner's ex has booked to take their two children on holiday during term time next year. My partner has explained he isn't giving his consent due to the fact they have always agreed they would never take them out during the term time and he will now also get fined. Something we as a household can absolutely not afford.

For context, their attendance levels are currently about 90% which isn't awful, but also below what it should be. So there's also a concern on his part that all of these absences are affecting their education.

She has said she's just going to call them in sick every day, but my partner is worried that by not informing the school this makes him complicit and more likely to be fined.

Has anyone else been in this situation? Is there anything that can be done to avoid my partner being fined when he hasn't agreed to the holiday?

My sibling had a similar issue and spoke to the headteacher before the holiday (apparently after he'd have been complicit) and said he was not in support of the holiday. Headteacher asked for it to be put in writing and was never fined. I would imagine it depends on the school/lea and what the new rules state that have just come into force.

The schools don’t issue the fines so it’s irrelevant if he contacts the school to say that he does not agree. When ex partner fills in the documents for the fine as long as she only documents her name on the form and not your partner then he would not be sent a fine
