We’re relocating from Cambridge to the Bournemouth area with 2 kids, 11 & 12 yrs. does anyone have any advice on secondary schools in the area? TIA

You’ll probably get more response if you ask MNHQ to edit your thread title, to make it clear you want to hear about schools in or around Bournemouth.

you need to put Bournemouth in the title.
But basically you will get the school that has a place.

Secondary schools are massively oversubscribed unfortunately, it’s very unlikely you will have any choice at all. Best speak to Lea re spaces but the better schools will be full, not ideal sorry

Thanks for your replies. We’re now looking at Ferndown and Ringwood.

It's a tricky area as some have 3 tier system, and Poole I think has Grammars. Also Ringwood is New Forest, I'm not sure Forest schools are over subscribed.
I am assuming you are looking at State schools.
Lots of children commute all over the place, and most seem to be quite good.

There are some great schools in the area. Twynham and Highcliffe in Christchurch, Ringwood is good. In Bournemouth there are boys and girls grammar schools, and in Poole too. But many are oversubscribed, so really worth thinking about catchment areas when looking at homes if this is something that is important to you. As always in any area, there are some schools with good and some with bad reputations. Worth looking at ofsted reports if important to you how they are graded. But yes, there are some great schools down here 😊
