We are looking to relocate as a family with young children (3&5).

Has anyone got any primary and secondary school recommendations please?

What is the general lifestyle, things to do, dog walks etc. we hope for something rural ish but want to be close to Bath and also good schools!

We both work remotely at the moment luckily.

Thank you

Maybe check out Malmesbury. The primary school is difficult to get into but it’s just had £6m from James Dyson to build a STEAM block and the (significant) layoffs at the company itself mean that there will likely be houses coming on the market soon. Secondary school is quite good and has a sixth form. There are also nice primaries in the surrounding village.

Deer park school in Cirencester (town is bigger than malmesbury but a bit pricier) is also well regarded. I don’t know a lot about the primaries in the town though. It has a nice market on a Saturday and lots of cafes.

Cirencester doesn’t have a train station although it’s easily big enough to have one. Due to ancient property laws the train station is located half way between ciren and malmesbury in Kemble. A really lovely but incredibly expensive village.

if you want to be actually in Chippenham, Hardenhuish is nice - it looks like a private school, give it a Google images search. Slightly further down the M4 Royal Wooten Basset has a great secondary but the town doesn’t feel particularly rural (same for Chippenham tbh). Sheldon doesn’t have as good of a reputation.

Did you make the move, OP?
