End of year report

I'm a primary school teacher and spend hours every year writing reports for my class.

My DC is now in secondary school and we've had emailed home a half sized sheet of paper with attainment and effort grades on. We've received this document at the end of each term.

Is it common not to receive any written comments?

Where you do receive written comments they are often automatically generated from the grades.

You will get detailed feedback in year 9 as your child chooses their options and after and of year 20 exams and year 11 mocks.

I don’t think you can say that.
We had nothing more than grades in Y9 or after Y10 exams. And no report at all after Y11 mocks (as reports are only 2x a year) though they were picked up in the 5 minute subject appointment parents evenings.

Entirely school dependent - we get 2 short reports and 1 long report a year. Long report has a paragraph or two from every subject plus tutor, short report is a grade card.

But a lot of schools don't do proper reports at all anymore

That's all we get from our school as well. You can contact the teacher directly if you have any additional specific questions.

Whilst you got more text at primary school IMO a lot of it was standard that you could imagine was put on multiple child's reports, so I'm not sure that they were necessarily any more helpful!

I only get a report for attainment and effort. No comments. I assume it's due to the volume of pupils. They give comments at the f2f parents evening (well zoom in out case).

We got nothing all year and none of the other school years did either, as far as I’m aware from comments on social media. Parents were expecting them at least at the end of the school year but the school has been declining rapidly and seems to have decided not to bother at all. Just a summary of exam marks would have been good!

We get the same. The last being in May this year. I do wish there was one a bit closer to the end of the year.
