I can't believe its almost Thursday!! Keeping ourselves busy and distracted.

steppemum · 20/08/2024 21:17

Really nervous about Thursday.
But dd is very chill!
We have an appointment with sixth form on Friday morning where they confirm their A level courses etc.

I am so pleased that dd changed from grammar school sixth form to this sixth form college, because the pressure is off for results, she needs 5 at grade 5 to go there, that should be fine.
She should be fine for A level subjects.

But English language is the big looming question.

I am hoping that college will allow her to start A levels and retake English alongside.

we are apparently going at 8am. As I think dd will be awake at about 5 that is fine by me!

Twinkletows · 20/08/2024 21:52

I didn't know before all this how speedy you had to be to accept a place/enrol.
Our 2 back up places after the sixth form at school, one of them we have to be there between 10:30-11:30 and the other his conditional offer expires at 1:30pm the same day.

He's still undecided.... Nothing like leaving it last minute!!!😲

wow that's nuts!
I do remember that ds and dd1 both had to confirm their (school) sixth form place before they left the premises when collecting results.
I don't know what the procedure would have been if they didn't get the grades

JaninaDuszejko · 20/08/2024 23:04

The stress is getting higher here, both DD1 and me. I keep checking her mock results to reassure myself that she should do OK. Fingers crossed everyone gets what they need and are happy.

ResultsHere · 20/08/2024 23:35

We have Leeds Festival planning to do so that is where my anxieties are focussed! It’s definitely taking my mind off the results.

There is nothing actually to stop him enrolling at both and taking a couple of days to think about it after results, but he will need to choose at some point!

Oh bloody hell, it's tomorrow!

DD is one who got all 9s (except for maths 😂) in her mocks and I’m certain she has not replicated that in the exams and it’s frustrating that she went into them with that expectation. So disappointment feels inevitable. She is very focused on college now thankfully and seems to have got the message that it’s mainly about a step to the next stage so hopefully she will bounce back quickly from any upset. I am only really worried about history as that’s her top subject and I’m sure she misunderstood one of the essay questions. It would have been a good essay but possibly not answering the question properly so I’m not sure if that would have pulled down her grade. If history is ok, I think she will eventually be ok with the others regardless from an emotional perspective, which obvs is all I care about .

Edited

This could almost have been my own post! (except drama for the mocks, which is strange as DD is THE drama queen 😂). She has put immense pressure on herself now and will not achieve the same so will be disappointed either way. Urgghhh I want the reaction over and done with now, I can't even plan the next couple of days as I don't know how the overall mood will be in our house.

Countdown is on now though, this time tomorrow I will be wishing the minutes away!

I have work to distract me today, DD will probably spend a day on Tik Tok making herself feel more nervous.

Panic71 · 21/08/2024 07:04

Gosh heart pounded yesterday as I opened an email from my son’s computing teacher asking me for the password to log on and download results today. Turns out I have the same name as the exams officer 😬🤪😜🫣
It’s odd knowing that the school now know…..but we don’t yet, which I should know as that happens with SATs each year too, but it’s horrible when you are on the other side of results - especially results that mean something;)

Tebheag · 21/08/2024 07:55

Yesterday went by so fast hoping today is the same. DS is back undecided where to go if he gets a choice. He has done some bridging work for both choices.
Got to be so hard knowing your colleagues could have seen results. Do you all have the day off today then who are normally involved with results day?

gingercat02 · 21/08/2024 08:12

This time tomorrow we will know. I keep switching between. He'll be fine, and OMG, what if he isn't.
I know we should, but we have no plan B. It's school 6th Form or nothing atm, he refused to consider colleges or apprenticeships, etc.

Lalux · 21/08/2024 08:24

Nerves really setting in here. Has been changing his mind about A level choices too. He's off out with friends so hopefully will distract him a bit.

BlackBean2023 · 21/08/2024 08:26

I'm working from home today as I'm banned from the building Grin I'm not actually banned it would just be awkward if I were there - I would wonder if colleagues smiling at me was a good sign or pity LOL.

Results are in though. So they know... only 23.5 hours until DD knows too!

steppemum · 21/08/2024 09:08

dd has gone to Bristol aquarium with a friend today.
great idea as they are out having fun and can't sit home and panic!

Spacecowboys · 21/08/2024 09:09

ds doesn’t seem to be nervous, I’m the one who will probably lose sleep tonight. No plan B for us either.

Countrylife2002 · 21/08/2024 09:25

How are the results presented? Do they get a score that they can then compare to the grade boundaries (and where do we find these?).
Again thinking of her history exam …!!

MrsHamlet · 21/08/2024 09:44

Advanced warning, because this comes up every year:

For English Language, you probably won't get the marks, just the grades. That's not down to the exam boards or the schools. It's because of the systems schools use to generate the results sheets: they only allow a certain number of fields. English Language has 2 papers and the spoken language "grade". So you'll probably get a grade for the exam and P, M or D.

It's not because the exam board messed up. Or that the school did. It's just because SIMS is a dick.

School will have the marks; we just can't easily get them on that sheet.

Thanks for this. Do we get marks for a subject overall or for each paper sat?

MrsHamlet · 21/08/2024 09:54

In my school, the results slips show the overall mark and grade.
As a teacher, I can see marks by paper and by question - but that's deep in the secure site. I have to click 36763 times to find it every year!

BlackBean2023 · 21/08/2024 09:55

DD will get results on one piece of paper and hopefully an acceptance letter sixth form. She's not bothered about the grades- just the acceptance letter!

Yes I believe so. DS' friend who took his GCSE's last summer sent him a photo of his results paper and it has scores for each paper as well as the grade. @MrsHamlet's comments about English language are interesting, I didn't notice this on DS' friend's results.

Grade boundaries will be on the exam boards' websites.

I didn't sleep well last night. I was having a nightmare about not getting to school. I have broken a metatarsal, my foot is in a boot and I can't drive. DP is away with work. A friend is going to pick us up and take us down to the school tomorrow (her daughter is also collecting results) but in my nightmare she forget us and for some reason taxis and Ubers don't exist. Obviously back in the real world DS would just cycle down to school, get the results, and cycle home again but dreams are all panic and no logic!

I am hoping today goes quickly. I'm working from home, DS is volunteering. We're going to have take away pizza and a movie night this evening. He's having a film noir phase so we're going to watch Chinatown.

What are you all doing with your DC this evening?

I’ll be drinking Prosecco to aid sleep, same as last week before the A level results came out!

Definitely better to be at home Grin

My sister works in a high school and part of her job is sorting all the results and data. It's the same school my nephew attends. He is getting his results tomorrow. My sister is staying in a hotel tonight to avoid giving anything away inadvertently at home this evening!
