Hi,

Are these done at the beginning of secondary? Are all the tests done on computer and timed?

Thank you.

Not all secondary’s do them but my friend who is a secondary headteacher said they are increasingly used because SATS are seen as an unreliable way of benchmarking and assessing potential.

The CATs that my sons have done in independent school have been done online, but I can’t be sure how they were done at my local secondary school.

entirely depends on the school, each one make their own decision about what to test, when and how

The school my son did them for entry into year 7 and then again in year 8 to determine future potential... I found a bit of practice was good to get him familiar with the question format and computer testing. I used www.schoolentranceexam.com but there are many other sites which do something similar - like test-prep and cat-prep.com.
