What's so amazing about Marlborough? it's a lovely school that has all that you'd expect a good indy to have. Academically their results are pretty much middle of the road and falls within the 'average' range overall. It takes a broad range of abilities which isn't a bad thing. It's more popular for being Kate's school and attracts rather posh titled folk as a result.

Shrewsbury does better than Cheltenham but not as well as Marlborough.
You can find this in league tables.
Shrewsbury takes quite a broad academic intake - some are very bright, some not so.

It isn't as academic as Marlborough no, but not sure of entrance requirements. If the entrance requirements are the same, I would say it will have a better teaching resource and school ethos. If Marlborough's are higher I'd say it's simply indicative of that.

Kind of agree RE: Marlborough. It was between Marlborough and Oundle for me, I chose Oundle which I preferred the energy of (they are the most similar schools to each other I think besides Oundle more academic but not loads) but I think it is popular because of British society like prestige blah, not because I think the education is that outstanding, it is still a fantastic school but don't know why it's vastly more popular than others, which it seems to be. Maybe I am missing something.

Im sure your DC would flourish at both.
