Secondary schools in/nr Abingdon

Hi, just wondering if anyone had recent experience or recommendations about secondary schools in Abingdon. I have one DD already accepted to do her IB at Europa School UK but the year group for her younger sister (aged 14) is full so we're looking for nearby options, hopefully just temporarily until a place becomes available at Europa. We're a Mexican/British family moving to Oxford after many years away. I'd be v. grateful for any advice.

Have you tried SHSK? They would be the obvious choice, but might be full.

Do you mean private or state schools? As Europa isn’t fee paying. I assume state as it’s hopefully a temp place.

Thank you both. Sorry, I should have specified: a state school in the first instance - my daughter does speak/write English ok but she has never been to an English-speaking school so probably needs as gentle an intro as possible.

Is your daughter going into year 10 in September, because you should plan for 2 years as moving partway through GCSE'S can be problematic. You are going to be reliant on spaces, so you may need to find that out first.

Thank you Takeachance18 for this information. Being new to the English system not sure which year she would enter, but her dob is October 2010, which may mean she could be among the eldest in a lower year or the youngest in a higher one. Being a new arrival, perhaps the former would be more advisable.

October 2010 birthdate would have her currently her in Y8, starting Y9 in September. She will be one of the older kids for the year.

What schools are you in catchment for? There are a few in Abingdon and some just outside too

We'll only have an address in August, still looking for a place to rent. We'll be in Abingdon itself so we can be close to Europa School.
