Eng Lit GCSE additional resources

DC is studying War of the Worlds and A Street Car Named Desire for GCSE Eng Lit. The teaching has been very patchy and my DC is not feeling confident so I said I’d help him.

Can anyone recommend some resources, or tips to help him along. He loves English and so wants to improve his grade.

Unusual texts - what board is this? Not AQA or OCR.

I am sure there are resources available but the choice of texts (realise it is not your DC's choice) means they will be more limited. There is lots of material for Christmas Carol, Jekyll and Hyde and Frankenstein, or Inspector Calls, Animal Farm and Anita and Me.

Any resource such as Mr Salles or Mr Bruff will help with general tips on how to write successful essays for sure.

Check the exam board and then buy the study guide, as a start.

Go and see it at the theatre?

I told dd to see Othello at the globe in the Easter holidays. Three hours there on the train, matinee performance, three hours back.

@clary it's CIE IGCSE.

doglover90 · 09/06/2024 14:22

Also there are SO MANY Streetcar resources as it is a popular A Level text. Lots will be relevant to GCSE. There's a York Notes guide which is good.

clary · 09/06/2024 14:26

Ah IGCSE that's why I couldn't find it on any GCSE lists. Thanks @doglover90. Agree it's a popular A level text so there will be resources there. I guess be aware of the fact that they may be targeted at a different spec but yes, surely themes, good quotes etc will still apply.

Senecalearning.com and savemyexams.com have free recources on ASND; tons of stuff on youtube; she could watch the movie with Marlon Brando and Vivien Leigh.

WotW: is on Spotify I think. Have you got her a study guide (Amazon)? https://www.sparknotes.com/lit/war-of-the-worlds/section1/
