Key Stage 3 Maths Help

Hiya,

My son is in year 7 and in all aspects of the curriculum particularly English & Science he is flying, except Maths! He is really quite struggling and because I am like a fish out of water with Maths myself I am struggling to be able to help him, I don't want to just 'leave it to school' to get him to where he needs to be and I would rather not fork out for a tutor just yet. Are there any resources, work books etc that can either be ordered from Amazon or downloaded that we would be able to go through together. They need to be simple in their approach but also enough for him to get to the level he needs to be at. We would prefer it not to be online!

I've been a maths teacher and the biggest problem with students in year 7 is not knowing their times tables well enough (that means if you say 'seven nines?' they reply instantly with '63') as this basic knowledge is used in every part of the maths curriculum (finding area of shapes, finding factors and common factors etc.) so I would focus on practising those and making sure he knows them really well (no workbook needed, just verbal practice when you're out in the car, over dinner etc.).
