Don’t really understand it

Okay so we have a not- so- nice attendance officer at secondary school who has zero empathy at all.

Am rather confused as my DD had one day off in May unauthorised. From looking at her attendance stats today, AO has marked it as 5.8% unauthorised.

For one day.

I really really don’t understand how the schools work out attendance and would really appreciate it if anyone thinks this is right before I query it tomorrow.

can anyone help please .

1 day out of the school year so far would equate to about 0.6% so I reckon there's a decimal point in the wrong place!

Do you have other children? Seems odd that with only a single day of absence you’ve formed an opinion about this attendance officer - so that made me wonder if you’ve had previous absences so the figure you’re looking at is for the full academic year, not this one absence? If she’s only had one day all academic year, it’s simply an error.

Ah - another way of looking at it would be by month. 1 day in May, in school days, would be 1/17 = 5.88%.

So that's it I think.
