Appeals and waiting lists

Hi

Please can anyone advise, do appeals affect waiting lists or are they separate? So if an appeal is won does this mean that they have accepted a pupil over the PAN?

Suppose the PAN is 180 pupils. Three appeals go through, so now they have 183 pupils. There is no space until they are down to 179. If four pupils drop out (eg because they move, or get a place somewhere else on appeal or from the waiting list), then there will be one space for someone from the waiting list.

Once transfer days begin happening, there may be some people on the waiting list who decide that it's not worth changing plans this late on, so it's possible they'll get down the waiting list a bit faster. That's more the case in September - there may be spaces crop up then because people haven't let the school know that they've moved/gone private, but you have to weigh up whether moving a few weeks into the new term is worth it.
