Hi can anyone please help. I’m looking to move house to be in the catchment area for Ecclesbourne school, only recently started looking so not sure where the catchment would be. Can anyone share a good site to find school catchment? Looked online but not very clear. I have seen the house below which is 0.2mile from Ecclesbourne would it automatically be in the catchment given is the nearest school to the house? What other locations would be in the Ecclesbourne catchment?

I don't know the exact boundaries of the catchment but that house will definitely be in catchment and is very close to the school. Pretty much all of Duffield, Little Eaton and some of Allestree will be in catchment, but am sure someone with better info than me will come along soon.

Yeh anywhere in Duffield will certainly be in catchment inc the house you posted @Honeybu.

The other areas are some of the smaller villages - bc Ecc is the nearest school outside Derby - so Kirk Langley, Mugginton, Little Eaton as @PorcupineSpongeTeeth says are all in catchment. Duffield is best tho as your DC can walk - the other areas have a dedicated school bus.

In Derby itself, Darley Abbey is in catchment but not the other side of Duffield Road, and not houses in the Belper Road area.

In Allestree, catchment is the further side of the A6 (so Lambourn Drive/Derwent Ave) which is a less nice area IMHO as it has no primary school or shops or any other facilities. Houses here go for less than Duff or D Abbey (maybe bc it is a bit soulless) so that's worth bearing in mind.

Note that Milford is the next village to Duffield but it is not in catchment - bc DC there can easily get to Belper School. Also do not believe estate agents who frequently lie about this.

There is a big new estate off Kedleston Road which claims to be in Ecclesbourne area but apparently the school is disputing this to it's not a very safe bet!

If you put an address into the 'Find your normal area secondary school' facility on the Derbyshire website, it will tell you which schools normal area (I assume that's Derbys speak for 'catchment' / priority admissions area) it is In.

I like that @MarchingFrogs ! - note that schools in Derby not in Ecclesbourne area will just say City of Derby Unitary authority bc Derbys CC is not the LA for Derby itself (apart from those areas that are in Ecc catchment!)

Just in case anyone reads this latest post – the school highlighted by @PreetiBvsr is a primary in the SE, not the secondary school the OP was asking about. Also this website (which says the Ecc School is in Belper! it’s not – so its info appears to be of limited use) asks a fee for any detailed info, and that info is available for free on sites such as gov.uk and the one posted by a PP.

Yeh pretty local (tho not local enough haha) can I help with queries?

Honeybu · 20/04/2025 12:36

@clary what it’s like living in Duffield is the community welcoming, what activities are available for kids under 10? I’m a single parent

The tennis and squash club is fantastic!

clary · 20/04/2025 12:40

It’s a village with benefits and negatives obvs. Good community spirit with annual events such as the music festival. Plenty of local activities like football, cricket, Scouts and Guides. Decent bus service into the city.

Great secondary school obvs - big reason for a lot of families to move there, so good parental involvement and interest in their kids education.

Honeybu · 20/04/2025 12:44

Thanks @clary and @mulberrybag5 yes the secondary was one the reason to consider moving there. But the recent Ecclesbourne Ofsted report was not good. Any information about the report?

The last report flagged a safeguarding issue which means the rating had to be low. Afaik the issue has been dealt with. Teaching and learning and behaviour and results are still and always have been very good. Go and look at the school tho? Tbh if you are in Duffield anyway I’m not sure where else you would go. Would be unusual to pick Belper over Ecc.

Ive just checked and it was rated Good 18 months ago. Behaviour flagged as not great tbh but otherwise I would be happy with that.
