Wow, how come there’s only 5 left?!

9 more to go here 😳

Mine also has 9 left - at least the next two weeks are less intense than the last two and there's more breathing space, and at least they don't have any exams on their birthday or the day after.

Wehaditsogood · 30/05/2024 14:07

@Waspie This should be the motto of the thread: Not because it matters to me, but because he will be so very pissed off if he doesn't get the grades he wants.

I am now dreaming of Barcelona [sigh].

Studying in a church building must be so much more atmospheric. We thought about our little local library, but it is hardly ever open 😭

Waspie · 30/05/2024 14:37

DS also has 9 but nicely spread out. All over on 14th June.

@Wehaditsogood - we are all in the same boat! 😂

Is anyone's child thinking of doing EPQ in year 12?

Wehaditsogood · 30/05/2024 14:39

DS said he would never under any circumstances do an EPQ. 🤷‍♀️

MonkeyTennis34 · 30/05/2024 14:46

Waspie At DS2's school, they gave to do an EPQ, unless they're doing 4 A levels 😱

MonkeyTennis34 · 30/05/2024 14:46

*have to do

BlackBean2023 · 30/05/2024 15:44

So glad to hear that everyone is having the same struggles with with momentum. DD's school don't run revision classes and she's been on study leave since 7th May so I'm so sick of nagging.

She has nine left - x2 maths, x2 history, biology, chemistry, physics, eng lang and business studies. History has been a killer as there is so much content - 80% of which wont be tested but Murphy's law dictates that if she doesn't revise it, that will be the subject that comes up!

She's put in a couple of hours today but that's been the extent of it all half term... the next three days I'm going full Sgt. Major.

DD's school is the same.

DD hates the pressure of exams so an EPQ is good for her.

JessyCarr · 30/05/2024 15:48

DD may do an EPQ (she has a title in mind, closely related to her desired degree subject) but she is currently down for 4 A-levels. I think that would be too much altogether so my view is that she should only do the EPQ if she discontinues one of the A-levels. But I am keeping that to myself for now and will offer my opinion only if asked! I think the school will be good at managing this sort of thing. They are very keen on EPQs.

newmum1976 · 30/05/2024 16:08

EPQ here too but DD not keen. It was either that, a fourth A level or an AS in Maths/ English.

Glittertwins · 30/05/2024 16:15

One is doing it, the other isn't but light do 4 A levels or another outside subject but the school does not insist on it.

WhereAreWeNow · 30/05/2024 16:55

DD is very keen on EPQ.

I'm pleased to say she's doing some maths revision today.

I'm impressed by all of you with sporty DCs going to the gym, playing tennis and running. I'm lucky if I can get DD to leave the house for a gentle half hour stroll! She hates exercise.

omnishambles · 30/05/2024 17:46

Anyone else got their art exam scores today?

omnishambles · 30/05/2024 17:48

We only have 6 left and one of those is additional maths!

Lalux · 30/05/2024 17:57

9 left here too but much more spread out than before half-term.

At 6th form I think they have the choice of EPQ or some sort of certificate in financial studies which actually some of sounds very useful as it's about budgeting and financial planning etc. like some others if doing 4 they don't have to do an EPQ or finance option as well.

wonderstuff · 30/05/2024 18:01

I'm reading this and wondering if I'm being too laid back.. I'm really just letting DD get on with it, I'm cajoling her out of her room to eat and do a bit of exercise, but honestly not entirely sure how much revision she is doing and how much netflix is being watched..? I'm trusting her to make the call. Her mocks did go well, so that has given me confidence.. I'm hoping it isn't misplaced. So difficult to get the balance of talking about the exams but not stressing her out too much. My youngest is far less motivated and I will be far more proactive with him in a couple of years I'm sure.

We had last English tutoring session this morning and orthodontist this afternoon. We had a orthodontist session booked in for next week, the afternoon before English, but he said he doesn't need to see her for another 6 weeks after today so that's a relief.

We are about half-way through now, can not wait until it is all over!

BestsellingWine · 30/05/2024 18:38

I haven’t a clue about EPQs - all ds has done is chosen 3 a levels. There hasn’t been any info from school about whether you can do 4 a levels or an AS or an EPQ. Hopefully the kids know

Neveragainisaid · 30/05/2024 18:45

DC did an EPQ - I will say that it is VERY nice to get some UCAS points in the bag before the A level exams, but it is a lot of work (about 150 hours in our case).

Countrylife2002 · 30/05/2024 18:51

DD also is keen on the idea of an EPQ.

She has done a couple of hours today and doing more this evening. We just popped out to do some errands and she said she was feeling panic like at Easter. I think her full industriousness will come when she starts back on Monday and the nerves ease again!

Countrylife2002 · 30/05/2024 18:54

DD has 10 left and finishes on 14 June. She says her last geography doesn’t require revision just a bit of practicing the paper so it means 2 days to revise nothing but physics!

Waspie · 30/05/2024 19:59

Thanks for the feedback on EPQ.

DS has a subject he would like to do. It combines two of his passions. But it depends on the "depth" part of the history A level his school are going to do as one of these options might be deemed too similar. He will find out more on the transition days in July.

Thank you, that's very helpful Smile

Yes, my DD has parked physics with a plan to cram for two whole days before. 2 weeks at it will all be over (then just two months of wondering what the results will be...!)

Curlyshabtree · 30/05/2024 20:31

Well the weekend off from revision moved into the the start of the week. But the whip has been cracked and they are back on track. Mine have 2 English left, 2 Spanish, 2 History/Geography, 2 Maths and 1 each of the three sciences. So a fair few to go.
I am trying to talk dtd out of doing 4 A levels (the college isn’t keen either) and just do the 3 plus an EPQ.
Like a PP, dts already has an idea what his EPQ will be about.

Spacecowboys · 30/05/2024 20:46

At ds’s school (where he is staying for sixth form), they have to choose three subjects and also one of: epq, further maths ( obviously only for those doing A level maths), core maths, gcse maths resit or English language resit ( they allow one resit if all other grades are good/it was unexpected). Four A levels can be done instead but they have to achieve 8’s or 9’s at GCSEs in all their chosen A level subjects to be able to do four.
