Maths and RS GCSE today

Anybody have any idea what the maths and RS GCSE's were like today? I have figured out they must have been hard as my son has come home really stressed out and is refusing to speak about them. Apparently he left a 15 marker question out !!!!

Bless him, I did the same in one of my exams. Missed a whole massive question. It is what it is 🤷‍♀️ Done it now, move on. Let him have a really chilled, enjoyable evening to recover.

The worst thing to do after an exam is worry about how it went. A hard exam is good because it gives a wider range of scores for the grades. This is because grades are awarded in relation to how everyone performs in the exam; so if everyone scores low then the grade boundaries are lowered to reflect this.

CM97 · 16/05/2024 17:51

Hard apparently... dd is not happy and has chemistry tomorrow 😔
Feel for you son (and you!)

DD said it was hard, one essay question particularly.

eveningqueen456 · 16/05/2024 18:09

He is a high achiever and has been predicted 7's and 8's he is also autistic so these are the marks he has to get because his predictions say this is what he is capable of. Up until today all the other exams have gone ok. It was extra hard today as was a morning and afternoon exam and he hates maths with an absolute passion. RS is his best subject and I think because he was tired and drained from maths he probably feels he didn't do his best. He is also dreading chemistry tomorrow! I ve just put a box of chocolate brownies outside his room and sent him a photo so he knows they are. Hopefully that will cheer him up and he will and speak to me in due course.

DD said maths was hard. For the first time she didn't finish the paper. Fingers crossed they all did well!

Ahh, what a lovely mum you are. My (also autistic) son would be love that gesture.

OmuraWhale · 16/05/2024 18:17

My DD also said maths was hard. As @leonaab says, if everyone found it hard this will be reflected in the grade boundaries. So hopefully it will be ok!

froomeonthebroom · 16/05/2024 18:21

I scribed on the maths foundation paper and I thought it was quite hard. If everyone found it tricky the grade boundaries will drop so I wouldn't worry.

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 16/05/2024 18:22

Don't despair - My daughter found maths hard last year - she compared answers with her friends and knew she had quite a few questions wrong as she was only one with a different answer.

She spent the entire weekend in floods of tears - she still scraped a 9 by a couple of marks.

There are obviously ALOT of working out marks you can still pick up even if the end answer is wrong.

froomeonthebroom · 16/05/2024 18:22

I'm scribing for chemistry and geography tomorrow. It's going to be a loooooong day!

OrchardDoor · 16/05/2024 18:25

I always remind mine that if it was hard the grade boundaries will be lower.

MavisPennies · 16/05/2024 18:30

I asked DS how they were. He said fine & no further comment 🤷‍♀️
Whether they were, or he just doesn't give a shit is unclear

hattylou · 16/05/2024 18:31

Did anyone's child do the Pearson higher paper?
How did they find it.
I have a rather unhappy son 😔

itwasthegintalking · 16/05/2024 18:41

My DD and friends found Edxcel paper difficult. One friend in particular who is predicted a 9 came out crying.

DD being practical about it, 2 more papers to go do hopefully they will feel more positive about these.

Head now down for chemistry and geography tomorrow. Looks exhausted and fed up. It's a lot, I feel for them.

itwasthegintalking · 16/05/2024 18:42

That should say EDEXL 🤣

Shinyandnew1 · 16/05/2024 18:44

Mine did the Edexcel maths today and said it was horrible. Really hard, left loads out and didn’t finish. Wants to do maths A level as well. This was the first one that hasn’t been ok, so far.

TinaYouFatLard · 16/05/2024 18:45

Solidarity to you all. DD text me to say maths was horrific. She said even the really smart kids were a bit shaken by it so I’m sure grade boundaries will reflect. DS did foundation maths but also said the higher paper kids said it was awful.

DD also had RS and was quite positive but it’s her best subject by far.

I am chilling wine ready for post Chemistry and Geography (for me although I may offer the poor kids a beer!)

blibblibs · 16/05/2024 18:48

DS found maths hard and that's his favourite easiest subject 😔
Computer science yesterday wasn't great either so he's not looking forward to chemistry and geography tomorrow. I do really feel for him.
He's got a good day out planned for Saturday so hopefully it's a good reset for it all to start again next week.

LadyAroundTown · 16/05/2024 18:50

My DS looks exhausted today and didn’t feel either exam went well.

He’s got Chemistry and Geography tomorrow. It’s a lot of pressure and this is only the first week.

noblegiraffe · 16/05/2024 18:53

I've seen the Edexcel maths papers and I think there were some tricky and quite wordy questions on Foundation.

Higher was nice for the first half, so grade 4/5/6 students will probably have had a good time. The last few questions were tough and a bit weird so grade 8/9 students won't have enjoyed it so much.

Was that the gcse or igcse? Mine did Pearson igcse maths a and isn't talking much...

Anjo2011 · 16/05/2024 19:06

My DD said maths was good until the last three questions and the RS paper on Christianity was all of the fundamentals she had revised. She is not so confident for tomorrow’s Chemistry paper.

stealthninjamum · 16/05/2024 19:09

Dd1 has maths and RS too. She said that everyone came out saying maths was hard. No one had an opinion on RS - it’s compulsory and dd felt she did badly but she doesn’t care enough to properly revise for it. I’d imagine lots of kids feel the same. I think it’s chemistry tomorrow so maths and chemistry are obviously more important than RS.

TrixieFatell · 16/05/2024 19:22

My daughter did the AQA higher maths today. She was very anxious last night but said she thinks she did enough to pass even though she got the last question wrong. She's desperate to pass, maths is not her strong subject.
