Coursework with a questionably low mark

Ds A level coursework has been marked and it was much lower than expected. I can’t see why it’s so low considering the amount of work he put into it. He has really struggled with his MH this year and has missed a lot of the lessons with one teacher in particular because she is unfortunately rather triggering. School know this and have advised he shouldn’t go. It’s the same teacher who has marked his cw. I’ve raised it with school and they have said they can’t legally tell me why it’s so low 🤷‍♀️ Surely they could briefly explain and to him why he has done badly rather than leaving him feeling so disappointed about it. I know other students have ongoing input and support throughout

I agree with you that other students will have had support (eg if you submit a draft on x date you will receive written comments, or if you attend a session on y date we will be going through helpful tips, etc). The problem is that this same support was also available to DS and he chose not to access it. I guess the reason he's got a low mark is that he's worked hard on it but it wasn't quite what the markers were looking for?

Remember that the coursework will have been externally moderated so I'm sure there isn't a bias against your DS.

Sadly you've answered your own question. He missed lots of lessons and didn't get the same level of support and input as the children who went to the lessons did.
