Year 7 / 8 maths challenge

Hi

My son year 8 has apparently been taking part in a maths challenge. He knows that last week all the top sets did a maths test and then this week, some of those ( including him) did another test today. They were then told not to discuss it online until Saturday morning……

Him being him has just gone along with this but doesn’t actually know what it is for… He was off earlier this week so it could have been discussed. This was done in a non maths lesson, about 30 children in the hall.

Can anyone shed any light on it?

Did any of your DCs do the Junior Maths Olympiad today - how did they find it?

travelblueturtle24 · 11/06/2024 17:47

Also the Junior Kangaroo was today - how was the difficulty level?

TeaandHobnobs · 11/06/2024 17:48

DS did Kangaroo today - he thought it was easier than the initial round?

swgeek · 11/06/2024 19:08

DD did kangaroo today, found it very hard. She is in y6 though so we weren't expecting it to be easy!

BuddingPeonies · 11/06/2024 19:25

We did the Kangaroo today too.
Opinion here is fairly easy.
I've got out all but 4 so far - but only had about 20 mins. Don't think DS2 has dropped a mark yet....

DS (year 6) did the Kangaroo round today. He said it was definitely trickier than the initial round (to be expected) but feels it went well. Hope everyone’s DCs are feeling proud of themselves! I never would have qualified for a follow on round in maths!

My DS did the Kangaroo today and also felt it was fairly easy... but we'll see! Good luck to everyone ☝

DD said the Kangaroo was much easier than last year.

Tacocatgoatcheesepizza · 12/06/2024 19:28

Ds (yr 7) did the kangaroo yesterday. He found it much harder than the first round although thought he did ok. He also hasn’t been well the last few days which didn’t help!

Does anyone know when they get the results? He says he doesn’t know.

The Junior Kangaroo paper and answers are out on the UKMT website - my DC went ahead and estimated their score

Approximately 80 students at DC School participated in the Junior Kangaroo and the JMO this week. DC took the JMO is not used to the section 2 format.

80 kids to the Kangaroo? Wow, amazing achievement.
DS2 was one of 4 in the Kangaroo this year (and one of 5 last year).

travelblueturtle thank you for the heads up on the answers. We think DS got 2 questions wrong 😮

The Junior Kangaroo boundary scores are out - 103+ gets a merit

Lisaquin01 · 17/06/2024 17:31

DD is 1 of 3 kids in her school that made it through - We arent expecting that shes got a merit but we are vert proud that she got to this stage
