Sutton online mock test 11+

Hi
Is anyone here whose child took recent Sutton online mock test . The results have been published today. To our disappointment our son got a standardised score of 105 in Maths and 112 in English.
Just need some reassurance that he still has a chance. Do you know someone scoring at this level and later on getting a place in the above mentioned schools.
Thanks.

It's probably not too late and very advisable to book an actual in situ test as this will give you another chance to tesr doesn't have to be at the preferred school in Sutton. Am guessing you sat the SGS online one, WCGS have in person ones.

Thankyou for your reply. We have already booked two hall based tests in June and August.
I'm not sure why he scored so less. Normally, he is above average specially in Maths. We are using Atom Learning to prepare and he gets 120--140 in the mock tests there.
So is Atom learning comparatively easier ?

To some extent, Sutton’s mock exams are more time-pressured, but once one gets used to the pace and learns the exam techniques, it should improve quickly.

I read on another thread that these tests are standardised against the students sitting the test. They inevitably attract the families who are doing loads of prep and also attract families from all over who want extra practise. Therefore the standard is very high and means a lot score lower than expected. So the suggestion is don't be too disheartened. Lots of the top scorers probably don't even want to go the Sutton grammars, as are looking for places elsewhere.

Our DS got even lower scores I think due to it being, as pp has said, an atypical population in the mocks - yet passed the real thing. We were given a tip-off not to be disheartened by one of the other parents attending the mock who had heard the same thing. Definitely don't be disheartened by those scores and look at the sub-sections where extra practice is needed.

Still 5 months or so to go so there is plenty time to work on weakness area(our daughter is sitting 11+ test this year too). I think the last few months are the most important especially summer holiday revision.

Definitely do not be disheartened.

In the Sutton grammar commentary for the results they say a standardised score of 107, is the result estimated to meet the start of the selective school ability band . So your son is not far off in this maths paper and okay in the English.

Keep working in both subjects. As others have said look at the sub-sections .

Sutton also run in-person tests and it sounds like you have booked these too. As they also say on their website the online test, whilst not having the same pressure as in-person ones children do know it is being marked elsewhere and feels more like a 'proper' unfamiliar test than perhaps they have done before. So look at exam technique too.

Thankyou very much for all your replies. Very reassuring and exactly what we all needed at the moment.
Thanks again.

Hi, things can move and change in either direction. I feel next few months are quite critical. I was disheartened with one of the mock results few months back and for us the right tutor has changed things. So ple ass don’t be disheartened and encourage your little one. Good luck. Happy to help and speak 1:1

My DS tried the Sutton SGSPTA mock yesterday and is disheartened about it being much longer and difficult than the Atom practice tests.

Is the length of the mock similar to the real test?
Did anybody here use Atom for test practice and get it? I'm thinking I should drop Atom and try with Exam Papers Plus but they are also shorter than the SGSPTA mock. I would really appreciate any recommendations of good practice material and techniques for improving speed.

Also, I read in other forum that there's Algebra questions in Stage 2, and I haven't seen that kind of questions in Atom tests
