There are government restrictions on child employment (under 16) so employers don't generally want the hassle of the extra paperwork, and especially in a potentially hazardous role such as farm work. Safeguarding is a key factor.

Volunteering may be possible, e.g. for an urban farm charity. You need to research what is near to your home, then contact them directly. Use Google or another search engine, and also consider asking for ideas on a local Facebook group or NextDoor, or if using Mumsnet then mention an area.

From age 16 you'll be able to get job notifications from online jobs sites such as Indeed, Total Jobs, LinkedIn. Watch out for scam jobs though.

There may be specialist job boards for farm work - Mumsnet may be able to help with that, but if you don't get leads on this thread try posting the question on the Chat board for increased traffic.

My DD is this age and a few have jobs. They tend to be in small businesses run by friends of the family and which involves a lot of fairly routine, non-customer facing work or, if it is customer facing, is in quite a public environment.

Insurance for anyone under 16 is an issue.

My ds has gone via friends or neighbours to do his works experience on a country estate, a fishery, and small tech company.

What do you do/ partner/ family do? My eldest about to be 14 started work last summer essentially being a helping pair of hands for a bee keeper/ forager on a local estate. His Dad works there. This summer he’s going to come do some days at my work. He’ll be doing landscaping, outside tidying type stuff. HR says max four hours a day.

There are young farmers groups throughout the country - might be a good starting point for enquiries. Farm shops also.
