2024 waiting list/appeal support thread

Hopeful88 · 18/03/2024 01:09

I thought I'd start a support thread for everyone in the same position - either waiting on appeal outcomes or hoping for a secondary school place from a waiting list.
I've read all the advice I can and I'm doing the best I can but I'm still struggling with the unknown.
We're currently in the 20s on the waiting list for our first choice school and an unknown number for the second choice.
Fingers crossed for everyone in the same position. 🤞🏼🤞🏼

@Mummyk13 i’m sorry to hear that you didn’t feel the appeal went well. May I ask what your grounds were in summary? Is it 10 days you wait for the outcome?
@KirriIrry i understand entirely our 1st choice said after Thursday as it then goes to them to control they can tell me WL position however based on the ridiculous WL position for 2nd choice I don’t want to know, although that won’t stop me asking and depressing myself!

Are you in Kent, by any chance?
I will definitely also be depressing myself by asking the question, even though I know the answer is not likely to be good. Our first choice in particular…… I’ll tell myself it’s so I can rule it out (and then drive myself nuts waiting for a miracle).

Rinse123 · 23/04/2024 18:30

@Mummyk13 let it all out that’s what we are here for. Big round of applause from me for what it’s worth and 75 minutes to school is ridiculous I wouldn’t accept a commute to work that long so to suggest this should be the norm for a child as young as 8 is ridiculous. I don’t even commute every day I wfh some of the time, not an option for a child it’s 5 days a week.

Rinse123 · 23/04/2024 18:32

@KirriIrry i am indeed.

AllSuggestionsTaken · 23/04/2024 18:47

@Mummyk13 Thank you for sharing. You are clearly a very loving and caring parent and I really do hope the panel see sense and have some empathy.

shockeditellyou · 23/04/2024 18:52

@Rinse123 Secounr round offers are (I think) end of the month. We have a large amount of movement in March as they offer places as they are rejected, then no movement at all in April as they do the 2nd round/late applications.

Appeals can be heard any time from 6th May. We’ve submitted our appeal but haven’t had any answers to our appeal related questions which is worrying.

Rinse123 · 23/04/2024 18:55

@shockeditellyou our appeal process is that they seem to do nothing until the pre planned date for 1st and 2nd part of the appeal. No doubt they’ll answer as part of the hearing. I could ofcourse be wrong I’m no expert at all

Mummyk13 · 23/04/2024 19:34

@AllSuggestionsTaken thank you I think the fact we are all trying our hardest and getting ourselves so stressed about it shows we all
are and we are all trying our best I really hope you guys get a space 🤞

AllSuggestionsTaken · 23/04/2024 20:15

Our appeal dates aren’t until after 3 June so quite a lot more waiting for us

Secondarywoes · 24/04/2024 19:16

Got my appeal date, it's at the same time as school pickup and is during SATS week. I'm a lone parent with younger DC so I think I can't manage this. I think I will withdraw. DC is feeling quite positive about the allocated school so that's good.

Mummyk13 · 24/04/2024 20:00

@Secondarywoes there is nothing for the working parent at all it’s so stressful 😩

AllSuggestionsTaken · 24/04/2024 22:44

@Secondarywoes Could DC have a play date straight from school that day possibly? Or can you ask for a change to the time perhaps?

Rinse123 · 25/04/2024 09:27

Thinking of everyone today who may be getting a waiting list offer. I’m wearing my lucky necklace and will have everything crossed for all of us in limbo land.

Mummyk13 · 25/04/2024 09:53

Good luck guys 🤞

Mummyk13 · 25/04/2024 11:20

Our appeal was Unsuccessful just got the email 💔

Rinse123 · 25/04/2024 13:36

Im so sorry to hear that @Mummyk13 we just had the WL offer email - no offer of a space sadly.

Mummyk13 · 25/04/2024 14:02

@Rinse123 you still may hear somthing I have heard a lot of people drop out over the summer or just don’t turn up they move ect

if your not to high on the waiting list don’t count yourself out just yet

we are 125 on ours so no hope for us

we are now waiting to see where we are for our daughter on the waiting list got another week wait till we either get offered a space after all offers accepted or declined are confirmed and if nothing then it’s another appeal 🤦‍♀️

Rinse123 · 25/04/2024 14:11

@Mummyk13 the school advised we are 102!

Mummyk13 · 25/04/2024 15:22

@Rinse123 have you appealed yet?

Rinse123 · 25/04/2024 15:25

Yes I have appealed won’t be heard until mid May so just waiting and hoping.

KirriIrry · 25/04/2024 16:00

It was a no for us as well. As expected, to be honest.

I’m only appealing for one of the 2 schools we waitlisted for, and their hearings aren’t until mid June, which feels like a very long way off.

I will ring and find out about waiting list positions tomorrow, but I expect to be nowhere close to the top.

shockeditellyou · 25/04/2024 17:48

Sorry there wasn’t more good news today, folks.

Hopeful88 · 25/04/2024 17:59

We have our appeal date in mid May. I've heard nothing from either waiting list yet.

Rinse123 · 25/04/2024 19:10

Have you had the date through @Hopeful88 we haven’t heard but they said the week it’ll fall in. Is yours all online?

Hopeful88 · 25/04/2024 21:02

Yes, we've had our date through and it's all on teams.

I'm in this same situation although mine is a late application appeal. I'm going through the worse hell I've ever been through as it's absolutely my fault. Number 2 on the waiting list but no movement at all.
I'm wondering anyone appealing for a place 100+ on the waiting list , the waiting list is on priority allocation so feeder school/distance from school and other school policies what makes you think your child should jump ahead over that many children ? No wonder the appeals take months to get through. Feel for anyone in this situation but kind of feels unrealistic reading some of this :(
