Graveney waiting list

TangoRango · 06/03/2024 21:00

My DS is 11th on the waiting list for Graveney school’s selective stream. Can any mums share their experiences with the Graveney waiting list please? Does he have a good chance of an offer?

What was his score? I should think 11th has a good chance.
Last year it went down to a score of 240 by 31st August, in 2022 it went down to 245 and 2021 was 247.
But this year the first admissions cutoff has been lower than other years at 250 so likely to be 240 or below by end of August.

11th - you will 100% get it, most probably very soon, before or on the date of second-round offers later in March!

TangoRango · 06/03/2024 23:24

Hi scored 246 on the WT. Just high enough to get through in the last 2 years.
We are crossing fingers and toes!

@TangoRango You will definitely get a place with that score!
Over the last four years waiting list has gone to 8-15 marks under the original cutoff so you are fine with 246 (cutoff this year was 250).

Hydro2012 · 09/03/2024 21:29

My DS was 10th on the WL last year and was offered a place before the end of March.

ncsurrey22 · 11/03/2024 12:20

@TangoRango please update when you get the offer. DD is just behind your DS, same score but I guess we live slightly further.. fingers crossed for you!

puffyisgood · 11/03/2024 13:05

No guarantees of course but I echo the other comments, 11th place in early March feels like almost a slam-dunk.

gabster33 · 12/03/2024 00:09

My daughter was 38 on list two years ago and it even went to 44 with the April shake up (December entrants joining / applying new). She got in on the first day of term. You almost certainly will get in. My daughter was 244 but the scores appear low this year. Must mean my neighbour is near the top too.

TangoRango · 12/03/2024 08:42

Thanks- so reassuring to hear from mums with past experience of this stressful process! The waiting list was updated on 8th of March and he dropped to 12th place.
Keeping fingers crossed that we will see some positive movement after the 15th March.

Hopefully they will be in the same class! Xx
We live in Streatham very near Tooting bec Lido - so would be a 6 min bike ride for my son.

We had the experience of going down a place too so don’t be disheartened by that. Also the Friday before we got the welcome email from Graveney the WL ref Wandsworth council had given us stopped working, we just got an error message. I assume it was because from their perspective he now had a place, just took a bit longer for us to be notified.

ncsurrey22 · 04/04/2024 10:35

@TangoRango any luck yet? We seem to have jumped 10 places with the last update so expect that you have already been offered or will be next week… as some other users said, it looks like the first 15-20 on the WL would be offered before the beginning of summer term.

TangoRango · 04/04/2024 12:36

@ncsurrey22 I haven’t received confirmation from the school but at the last waiting list update on the 29th March, all reference to Graveney was removed. He is still 11th on the Chesnut Grove waiting list.

I’m hoping this means he is now off the Waiting list for Graveney and should receive an offer after Easter hols. School office closed so no one to call about this!

Really pleased to share that DS has received an offer for Graveney! The email came today- we are delighted.

Hi everyone, jumping on this thread to check, does anyone happen to know with a position of 94 on the waiting list, realistically there is no chance is there? Score of 235.

PForParent · 04/03/2025 06:16

With a score of 235 he/she wouldn't have got in in the past: https://www.wandsworth.gov.uk/media/yi1hafdr/previous_years_admissions_for_wandsworth_secondary_schools.pdf

There is, in fact, the chance that this year the waiting list will move less than other years between March and September, if more families who would have gone private won't, now with VAT on private school fees. No one can know for sure.

We were around the same on the WL last year and my recollection is the list moved around 50 places by end of August, so unfortunately I don’t think it will get to you. We were offered Band A Chestnut Grove though at end of August even though we are pretty far away.

That’s my feeling too. I’m ok with it as we were offered Harris Academy Wimbledon, which he got a music place. The score fro Graveney has been going down every year; but yes with VAT on private schools you just never know.

PatientVesta · 10/03/2025 13:01

She has gone down the selective list 4 positions since last week ... And gone up quite a few on the distance, although still zero chance.

puffyisgood · 12/03/2025 11:51

For balance, it might be worth saying that there was a thread on here a couple of weeks ago, which got taken down because of identifying information about the OP, started by someone complaining about her y7 kid getting, midyear, moved down to Graveney's middle set from the top set with, as she saw it, possibly sketchy justification, possibly limited information provided about the move. My understanding is that these kinds of moves aren't uncommon, and would guess that a kid going there with a WT score of 235 might well be at risk.
