Herts schools continued interest process

anyone knowledgeable about Herts admissions?

I have emailed but no expecting an immediate reply in the coming days due to what I expect is a very busy inbox!

We put down 4 choices. We were allocated 2nd choice. Automatically on the continued interest for 1st choice.

Hindsight now being that wonderful thing. Would we be able to ask to be added to choice 3 continued interest list as 1st preference bumping what was our 1st choice school down to 2nd choice?

Conflicting info online. Some info on individual Herts schools websites (not the schools in question - just found as a result of Google searches) says you can’t add other schools in addition to the ones you have automatically been placed on the lists for until round 2 but the actual Herts website doesn’t specifically say this.

we would actually prefer our 3rd place school now, long story! We were only 10m further than the furthest admitted child for our first choice so it’s likely that if we can’t add the 3rd place school as 1st until the second round of continued interest we would have already been allocated our original 1st place after the inevitable movement.

Sorry if that doesn’t make any sense!

is first choice still your preference over the school currently allocated?

There is a list of schools which only accept new (so 'late' first) applications for the initial rerun, I think? So if your new first preference is on your CAF and is one of those schools, then you wouldn't be able to add it yet. But if it isn't on the list, you should be able to (I'm just going on what I can see on the website - not in Herts and not applying for schools, so can't get any further into the CI form than the login page).

It does seem that you only have until Friday to do it, though.

Yes would still rather the original 1st choice over the one we were allocated

It sounds like you have a good chance of getting in to your original first choice - if you switch it below your original third choice, do you risk losing a spot at the original first? Or not because they run the whole thing again as if it was a fresh round?

No. Presuming we are allowed to add it we wouldn’t risk as a space. They would run it again so we would hopefully then secure the place at the original first choice and remain on the interest list for the original 3rd choice for the next round and beyond! We would be equally happy with either choices - both outstanding and we loved both however circumstances have changed recently meaning logistics of school runs etc give the 3rd choice the slight edge! (The are basically on opposite sides of the town and we live in the middle!)

Unfortunately my cousins kids got their first choice so apart from knowing what the process is for she has no idea how it works.

I am on the continued interest in Herts. Is there much movement between now and September?
