St Dunstan’s College or outstanding comp?

Local comp has outstanding rating but results don’t look that amazing overall. It’s not a top state school. Eg A level top grades 20%. DC is bright and above average but not a genius! Needs a bit of motivation; smaller class size might help. Great at sport. Wondering whether Dunstan’s is worth the cost vs what’s on offer a bit nearer to home. Anyone else made a similar decision?

My DD (like your child, very bright but not a genius) had offer from Sydenham School which we think is a good school, and Sydenham High School which we thought would be a better fit: far fewer pupils, great pastoral care, numerous clubs, accademically strong but not OTT. Hope this helps.

Thank you. Glad you found the right fit for your DD and well done to her for receiving an offer. SDC seems to tick most of our boxes but I’m a bit concerned about online commentary on the pastoral side.

I have a few friends with children there who are happy. We are accepting a place there for my dd, over the very local and very highly regarded state girls school. It's not about results but hopefully about the really rich and varied time she will have while at school.

As I said on another thread just now our DC started in year 7 last September and they and we are v happy with our choice. Chose it for same reason as @selondon28 and there is loads going on. I've seen some of the online chat on pastoral too but tbh isn't reflected in our experience so far, our indeed that of other parents we've met. In fact the reverse if anything, they seem pretty good on it.
