Grammar school waiting list 2024

Hi everyone
just got a question, so we applied late to our secondary schools so our offers will come out on the 18th of March I believe and not the 1st.
so we doubt we will receive an offer from any of the grammar schools we put on our list, even though she has passed.
but we will still put her on the waiting list and I wanted to ask can we still call on the 1st and ask to be put on the waiting list or are we not allowed till the 18th?

any help would be really appreciated

I think you should probably call your local authority next week (not tomorrow!) and ask them. My guess is you’ll have to wait until you’ve been allocated a place to be put on waiting lists - which is often automatic for schools ranked higher than the one given - but that they won’t start allocating places from any waiting lists until after the 18 March date. But I’d definitely confirm with them.
