York High and other secondaries

Hello!
We are planning to relocate to York this year and currently in the process of narrowing down areas we like.
We do like Holgate but I've only ever heard negative things about York High. Is it really that bad? Or is there a level of snobbery at play? Daughter is only 7 so we have a few years but do need to take secondary catchment areas into account as we won't want to move again.
Budget will be around £400-£420 tops and we need a 3 bed as I work from home so need an office. Could any locals please offer some advice?
Is Vale of York worse/the same/better than York High?

Thanks

Recently I have heard good things about York high and certainly know people who put it as their first choice for Y7 entry in Sept 2024 after visiting there and also Manor, Millthorpe and All Saints.
Clearly it has a catchment that may be a bit more challenging than some other schools, but I know several current parents who are happy with it.
Feedback I have heard is that they put much more effort into the open days and there seemed to be a lot of extra curricular going on.
I do appreciate that this is all hearsay however and it is a school that has its challenges. My daughter played a sports match against them there and did comment that there seemed to be a lot of litter around(!) but it does seem to be on a upward trajectory at the moment so if this continues then things may be very different by the time your daughter is due to move up.

York high was our second choice for my son , we didn't go with it in the end because it was a long walk despite it being our catchment school. His friends parents from primary school all seem happy with york high and a close friend whose daughter went there a few years ago was happy with her education and experience there.

Manor and vale of york are in the same MAT, both are average on the compare school data website, york high results still put then as significantly below average.

From holgate you could be in millthorpe catchment, has had a bit of bad press lately but it is a lovely school, I’ve got nothing but positive views. Worth a look around.
good luck with the move

@JaffavsCookie
Sorry, do you mean York High is better than Vale of York and Manor? Thanks.

No York High is the worst of the 3

Manor is horrendous, an absolute no go.
All Saints is the best state secondary in York in our experience. Better pastoral care than the celebrated Fulford (which is also a good school but not as good as All Saints).
All Saints is a church school though and so applicants need to be Catholic or be vulnerable (eg EHCP).
