Hello, would love to hear other's thoughts on Surbiton High school please.

Is it too overcrowded, do girls seem happy there etc? Debating between NHES and SHS. Thanks.

Hi there. I know people with girls at Surbiton. They’re happy enough but it is big. A lot of competition for sports teams and quite competitive generally/difficult to shine. I think it depends on your girl’s personality really. I’d be less inclined to send a shy or less confident child there. NHES is a great school, a bit smaller and part of the Gdst. A teacher I know there really rates it. Also consider the journey. It’s always helpful if they can travel easily, independently. Good luck with your decision.

SHS parents have told me the Head Mrs Glover is leaving at the end of this year which is a shame as she seems great.

Is this confirmed, because this is important for prospective parents to be aware of when making a decision. I would be frustrated if a few weeks after I had chosen a school I was then told the head was moving on, as much as a school should be bigger than one person etc..

They are currently advertising for a Principal at Surbiton High, so I can only assume Mrs Glover is moving on.

yes it's true. the news were communicated to existing parents few months ago, it's little bit worrying for the existing or potential parents to be honest

I think this is an old thread so decision likely to be made if for this year, but the new head has been selected (coming from NHES to SHS). I have a DD in year 8 at SHS and it has felt quite big. They have a huge sports provision with lots of after school clubs. Music seems to have space for all, drama/musicals more limited/selective. The girls are friendly. I think it probably works best for self motivated girls or scholars/those with strong interests/talents.
