Emanuel waiting list movement

I’ve asked this on the 11+ thread but asking again to hopefully get more answers.

DS has been waitlisted for a place at Emanuel. It’s ours and his first choice. He has two offers elsewhere so has good back up options but we’re wondering whether we should keep our hopes up for a place opening at Emanuel or not.

My understanding is that there was little movement last year but was anybody actually offered a place from the waiting list and when was that?

We know people on other schools’ WL that given up WL place. Hopefully this is the case, would help others.

I will call them middle of this week to see if they can give some more info.

I just spoke to admissions and they insisted no one has been offered from the WL this year at this point… interesting…

I am aware there are also siblings on the waitlist, but I dont know if the siblings policy means these will get priority.

Seems a bit odd that there are siblings on the waiting list - if a sibling reaches the pass mark, then they're made an offer (even if their mark is lower than that of a candidate from a new joining family - ditto those to whom they are offering sports/music/drama/art scholarships)

Usually if a sibling does not reach the pass mark, the parents are counselled to accept a different offer (this really happens).

The only way I can square this is if the waiting list extends to lower marks than the standard pass mark - but that surprises me a bit because Emanuel is very popular now and is a positive first choice (rather than back up) for many and the pass mark has been rising steadily for several years now (starting after the appointment of the new head). Has the demographic shrinkage reached year 7 in that part of Wandsworth? (I know some preps are having to adjust to lower numbers)

Anyhow, state offers day tomorrow, so if movement is likely to occur it'll be next week. And I hope that those still dithering between multiple offers have whittled them down to only two by now, which also contributes to movement.

Not sure if siblings on WL are for 10+, heard that happens sometimes. So they have to retake for 11+.
If offers are siblings at 75+ , may those at 68+ would have to be WL?

Anyone on WL got a call from Emanuel admissions yet??

I just emailed Emanuel and was told DC place on WL meant unlikely to receive an offer if they go to WL, and was wished well with our other choices

Oh gosh thanks for sharing @springsunshine10 I hope your DC has some great offers elsewhere… and who knows…maybe it will move more than they think? Good luck to everyone!!
We have offers but ironically this is the one we want and this is the only WL we are on!

We were told something very similar to @springsunshine10 today. Said that it was unlikely they'd move far enough down the WL for us... so something must have changed in past few days to give them confidence that they won't need to go too far deep into the list.

Did you contact them or did they reach out to you? Now I wished I called them to at least find out if there’s any chance at all. Guess I will have to wait to Monday

They sent an email on Thurs/Fri to those with offers to try to “nudge” them to accept or decline. Hopefully things will move soon 🤞

I think that'll be to encourage those who were waiting to see if they got Graveney superselective places to relinquish promptly. Fingers crossed for those waiting and hoping for movement

Graveney qualifying score for selective places was quite a bit lower this year than previous years so I imagine that should free up a few Emanuel places (250 vs 254).

On Thursday they called a a friend’s ds on wlt who has a sibling in the older years. He was offered a place so they are moving down the list. I will call them on Monday 🤞🏻Good luck

I called Emanuel this morning and they are having a meeting with the head later on today. I was told my dd is in the middle of the list and unlikely they will go there. Fingers crossed for those still waiting, we will accept her offer to another indie school.

No luck for us so have given up hope. Any luck with the other DCs waiting?

We got an email from Emanuel yesterday saying their spaces are now filled and if our daughter still wants to remain on the wlt. We have accepted another offer and have moved on. It feels good. Good luck if anyone still is waiting.
