Harrodian is in!

FriendlyMom · 09/02/2024 15:50

So many good news! Congratulations! For those on WL - don't despair - the list moves, even for schools like SPGS!
We went through the same process last year and this thread was my lifeline! Happy to talk to anyone who considers SPGS as an option but may have questions! DM if you want. Congratulations! The worst (the wait) is over!!!

BobbyBiscuits · 09/02/2024 16:25

@hiitsquare KGS is not good. My uncle just retired from working there after 35 years. It's going to the dogs.

Wondermumof4 · 09/02/2024 16:26

No Harrodian for us well done everyone wait is finally over !!!

farfallarocks · 09/02/2024 16:29

still waiting for one more school. Hitting the gin at this point

ItsMeHi48 · 09/02/2024 16:37

A disappointing no from ibstock for us, sad to not even get WL, and DD is feeling blue about it but she has WL for FHSS so I’ll be praying that comes good and beating their door down regularly!!

Well done to all DCs (whatever the outcome). Congrats to those who have offers.
Fingers crossed to those still waiting (we are on the last one).

This is such a supportive thread. Let's try an be as supportive to each other as we can outside too.
For any with multiple offers (which is amazing) please let's all think about some of the DCs that are sitting on waitlists and all the uncertainty that brings. I am not saying rush any decisions (way too important and it's right to take whatever time needed to come to a conclusion), but when a decision is made, let's try to get those places back in the system as soon as we can to help out those who are desperately waiting for them. It's a cruel process, as parents there is little we can do about it. In this small way we can help. So I say, let's help when we can.

Absolutely.

Although anyone been able to find a way to decline offers with schools that use OpenApply?

I can only see that you can use it to accept the place.

Trickleg · 09/02/2024 17:11

Just bear in mind that schools over offer by quite a lot (unlike state schools) so it isn’t one out one in. Tiffin will offer 180 for 180 places, KGS will offer 250 for 120 places. So the Tiffin waitlist is going to move a lot more quickly than the KGS one. KGS went to waitlist last year, Emanuel didn’t - which is why I suspect they’ve been so cautious this year.

I think that KGS used OpenApply last year and we rejected by replying to the email communicating the offer.

Lamplight101 · 09/02/2024 17:43

Has anyone had an email from St John's Leatherhead yet?

I know someone who got into Emanuel last year from the waitlist.

This may be a random question, but - does anyone know if it is possible to move between GDST schools further on down the line? For instance if a child starts at WHS but after a few years wants to move to PHS or SCHS, or vice versa. Does being part of the same trust make it easier, or on the contrary harder (don’t want to steal pupils from each other)?

Some switch for sixth form. They will be treated the same as any other candidate ie- need to pass the entrance test etc.
I imagine it would be the same for occasional places in other years as well.

Lamplight101 · 09/02/2024 18:25

Received the (positive) email from St John's on the stroke of 6pm. The waiting now gives way to some difficult choices. Well done to all, what a battering process.

can you please explain with details what you mean please?

Winifredduck · 09/02/2024 18:02

I know someone who got into Emanuel last year from the waitlist.

I stand corrected! I thought they hadn’t and that was what was bandied around on this thread last year

Winifredduck · 09/02/2024 18:55

Trickleg, I've seen it said a few times on here.
I think it's because they didn't make lots of offers to the waitlist immediately after the acceptance deadline like the year before.

BobbyBiscuits · 09/02/2024 19:02

@Ian85 The culture among some staff isn't great I've heard. One department in the sixth form in particular is run by someone who really doesn't care about the kids. This is not the whole school I don't think. I can't say more as it would genuinely be outing about the person who worked there.

SeccyScooz · 09/02/2024 19:18

I’ve been lurking on this thread (as I did with last year’s in a vain attempt to prepare myself for this year’s trauma!) and I wanted to send congrats to all those whose DCs got what they wanted and commiserate with those who didn’t get the outcomes they wanted.

So much fun reading some of the comments on here, so glad some are able to keep their sense of humour in the 11+ trenches!

We have two WL places at our top choices so hoping for some serious shifting over the next couple of weeks!

travelturtle · 09/02/2024 20:10

Good luck @SeccyScooz and others with WL places. This is our second time doing this, and the WLs do often move (some
of them quite quickly as places get released)🤞 for your DCs.

FlyingPandas · 09/02/2024 20:39

A huge well done to all our DC, whatever the outcome of the 11+/13+ process - it's brutal and exhausting and they've all done an amazing job. A relief to have it all over and done with.

Sending congratulations to anyone with good news, sympathy to those who are disappointed and wait list movement vibes to anyone that needs them!

We are lucky enough to be celebrating with 3/3 offers for DS, likely choice will be Hampton as that was always his favourite, we will take half term to think about everything and then make a decision / release unwanted offers at that point. Very conscious of all those on waiting lists as others have pointed out.

Celebrating now with a glass of wine and a takeaway!

IndieAnna · 09/02/2024 21:16

travelturtle · 09/02/2024 15:07

Sorry to hear. Which schools? Some WLs seem to move more than others so hang in there.

WLs at PHS, FHSS and WHS. Any ideas how many places are over offered and how many are on waitlists? Do many decline these three schools? I think I read that WHS were waitlisting everyone they don’t offer to, so they don’t outright say no? Don’t fancy our chances if that’s the case. Anyone have any intel whether WHS are adding that extra class this year, they said on their website they would if they had enough applicants meeting their requirements.

Any tips/advice would be appreciated.

Congrats to all with good news.

witscreek · 09/02/2024 21:39

@IndieAnna - WHS usually has quite a lot of movement on the WL but not until the state school offers come out. They should tell you roughly where you are on the list in terms of quartile. Tell them you would definitely take a place if offered etc. Good luck- I'm sure one of them will turn into a place!
