waiting list for an academy. Is it worth chasing?

my son is waiting to get into an academy. we are no 1. understand someone has to leave before we get a place.
Admission is through council but i heard that academies can have some say in the matter themselves.
Is it worth chasing the school for update or if local authority says they will be contacted by school when there is a space just leave it as it is?
Just wonder if sometimes school don’t rush or have no time to update the council and if parent chases it might make a difference?

thank you. i’m hoping as it’s a private school, they would be more efficient with the registration.
What is the Fair access protocol admission?

@Whereisthesunny As it's a private school, it will break up early for summer, and I doubt the family will want to start paying fees until September. If they've already left the current school they may just be taking an extended holiday or moving house.

Thanks but assuming this would be reflected on the waiting list rather than a surprise at the time a place becomes available

or they left in time for the child to allow some time to settle in the new school. People who know the child knew they were going to a private school. Anyhow thanks for all the possible scenarios fingers crossed we hear soon

If the year is already over PAN because of previously won appeals, or other acceptances via EHCP or FAP (who have space created for them, even if the year was full, and have nothing to do with the waiting list), one student leaving may not mean a place is offered from the waiting list. They may want to go back down under PAN before offering a place.
